"Old Knives"

Charlie N

That looks to have been what they call a good trade my friend- that Terrier is a Beauty.
That Bone is a wonderful blend of Pic Bone and Worm Groove / Indian Trail Bone.

Herder- follows with a gorgeous Boker - Herder that Knife has everything you could want ... outstanding jigged Bone- and a perfect selection of Blades/ Punch.

Galvanic- that had to be a good follow up with the two mentioned Knives- and boy did you what! As mentioned- that’s a very interesting pattern, beautiful combination of stunning blades/ Bone.

Great Ol Rem Lostball. I just love those Remington Jacks- outstanding Knives.

Veitsi - Ulster Jack in all its glory!

What has happened to this thread, it used to be the sleepy corner of The Porch?! With the knives you guys are showing my practically having palpitations here! :D My sole New Year's Resolution is to try and keep up with this thread! Have a very happy 2018 folks, and thanks for sharing all your pointy treasure ;)

VP , the bone on that ez open resembles that on an old Henckels FJ I have.

I have a great interest in jigged bone. Sometimes it is the best indicator towards finding the manufacturer.

I was thinking the same thing Lyle but I didn't really have any justification other than it looks and feels like some of the Henckels folders I have. Good call

I think some of you folks have found a time machine! Galvanic, that Phoenix is properly named, it looks like it rose anew from the ashes just this morning! Please tell us more about it, and are the covers ivory?

Thanks all for the nice comments. The handles are in fact ivory and the letter is asking for 10 gal of something, can't make it out, to be mailed to his Fulton NY address. The author of the letter appears to be J A Foster. Foster was one of the principles in Foster Brothers, Chatillon and also Phoenix Knife Co.
I have been looking for knives and cutlery info on NY companies for a few years and these are the items I have found that I have been posting recently. I will say that because BF now allows you to put pictures on their site from your computer, instead of through an outside entity, makes it much easier for me. I hated those outside sites!!

Man that Pearl is a beauty!!

That pearl is a piece of craftsmanship!
The Remington is cool too. It looks like one of the "Wrigleys" (sp?) gum knives.

Thanks a lot guys, the Four-blade Penknife has tang-stamps for both Mappin & Webb and Brookes & Crookes. I don't think I've seen one of the Wrigley's gum knives Mark, was it an advertising knife or one given to customers? :)

I think it was an advertising knife. I can't recall the specifics, but I did find this from the Oregon Knife Collectors club.
