"Old Knives"

Some great knives posted by all.
Hope this set is old enough for this thread.

Here is an fairly uncommon carved pearl dog shaped knife from the "Electric Cutlery Co." circa 1900. Carved pearl dog knives were produced by a few other cutlery firms in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and those known (including this Electric) were all made in Germany. While known examples do look similar, they all vary slightly and have different blade configurations. Only the most skilled German cutlers could produce such a knife. The odd looking folding brass tube on the underside is actually a sheath which contains a needle for sewing. The thread is visible and is seen wrapped around the end of the brass sheath.

Thanks, Campbellclanman, Lostball, Gevonovich, Galvanic, and smiling-knife.
Galvanic, that it also a fantastic pearl fish example!!!!!! And the leather pouch is a nice bonus.
Old carved pearl figural knives rank among my favorites, and there aren't many out there. :)

Thanks guys, like Herder I really like carved pearls! Here are 2 Utica's with abalone handles. Utica's are one of my favorites. View attachment 823916
Those are fabulous looking knives, Galvanic!
Whenever I see old Utica Cutlery it reminds of the time in the late 1960s when I lived on the corner of Noyes and Genesee streets in Utica. Utica cutlery was a few blocks down Noyes St. It started in 1910 and is still in the same location today, although it was expanded a number of times.

Nice Uticas, Mike!! Interesting and unusual cutting of the Abalone!!
I much prefer those to the Abalone "veneers" that are now available!!
