"Old Knives"

Nice collection of Ulster barlows Kevin, and great pics.

I have not had anything new to post in a while. This World War I Signal Corps Inspector's Pocket Kit is a bit off the beaten path for me. All of the tools are stamped "S.C.USA." I got this kit from Mike Silvey and I think he said this Ulster knife was in an early edition of the kit. The tool on the knife closes by pushing down on the blade. The blade has seen some hard use, but I guess that's to be expected.

Our daughter helped me hold it open for this shot. Those are not my purple toenails.

I'd hate to "1-UP" Mike's Inspector Kit... but this George Schrade Boy Scout Mess Kit is pretty historic too, LoL ;)

Very very cool, Mike !!!!!

Thanks Gev and mitch4ging. I think Henckels called it a picnic set.
Mike- Very cool set! Is that the original toothpick? I have a Henckels MOP lobster knife that has the same looking toothpick and I always figured it was just something someone threw in there to fill the spot LoL. - Kevin

Mike R. - That's a neat Inspectors Pocket Set, and a beautiful Henckels picnic set also.
Augie - Three great old Wostenholm pruners.
V.P. and Ramrodmb - Very nice Scout sets which are not common to find in such good conditions.

Knife related camping, food, and tool sets are another interesting avenue of collecting.
Here is an early 1900s knife/tool set from Henry Sears which was made in Germany.

Very nice Herder! What a great set- especially with sears name attached- because you just know that someone good made it under contract for them!

Mike, I cant quite see - that Henckels set, I suspect from the first photo that those Handles look Ivory- the second photo almost confirms it to me with a significant grain - are these in fact Ivory Handles on these Henckels?

All... just curious what your thoughts are on this one, I have two Schrade-Walden model Buck 301's and I noticed when I was posing them for some snapshots the other night (LoL) that one them has black looking springs on the bottom. Any ideas why this might be? The picture into the well shows that they are normal/shiny on the inside...o_O

Thanks Duncan. Yes it's ivory or "african goat horn" as some are now calling it. ;)
Nice Sears set! I've tried to win auctions for Ulery/Napanoch tool kits but to no avail so far.

Kevin, the tortoise shell toothpicks are nice to have since a lot of them broke or went missing over the years. Here's one similar to the knife you posted. Love that Kastor!

Here's my wild guess:
The outside of the springs are dark because they are carbon steel and come in contact with hand sweat. The inside is still shiny because it gets a film of oil from when you oil the pivots, and that oil doesn't get rubbed off as quickly as on the outside.
