"Old Knives"

I think you know when you've found "your pattern":thumbsup: I picked this one up last week and added to my Ulster Barlow pile :D H herder , does any of your info show a Barlow pattern for Ulster Knife Co? I can't really make out the tang stamp on this one, for sure Ulster top line but no idea under that. The other bone knife I have is Ulster Knife USA and has a nail nick... this is the first one I have seen with the long pull. Just curious. Have a good weekend all! :)

Nice collection of Ulster Barlow models, V. P.
Ulster offered Barlow knives at least as early as 1915 and right up until the end. The "USA" stamp was used after WWII, and pre-war Ulster Barlows had 4 handle pins, where post-war models had 3 as yours all show. Sometime around 1960, The handles on Ulster Barlows went from genuine bone to genuine "Bonite", which was of course a synthetic material of some sort. Long pulls were used on models from beginning to end, and short pulls were also used on some later models. Enclosed is one illustration from 1951.

Outstanding as usual herder, thank you very much :) That means mine is after the Baer's took over and is an Ulster USA  Can you imagine buying out a knife company during the beginning of a world war? I think that explains why there are so many Ulster USA electricians knives around LoL :D

Nice collection of Ulster barlows Kevin, and great pics.

I have not had anything new to post in a while. This World War I Signal Corps Inspector's Pocket Kit is a bit off the beaten path for me. All of the tools are stamped "S.C.USA." I got this kit from Mike Silvey and I think he said this Ulster knife was in an early edition of the kit. The tool on the knife closes by pushing down on the blade. The blade has seen some hard use, but I guess that's to be expected.

Our daughter helped me hold it open for this shot. Those are not my purple toenails.

Very cool Mike! Piece of history there :)

Thanks Kevin and Charlie. Mike had a nicer version of the same knife that I briefly considered buying, but the one I have has earned its stripes.

That totally belongs in the old knives Thread Mike matey.
What a great set- isn’t it great to find something altogether after all this time!

3 different Wostenholm pruners, have been posted before but pictures were lost in the Photobucket change.
I've spent the last couple of weeks perusing this thread back about a year or more. It is nice to see your posts Augie because all of yours are gone from that time frame as are many others. I'm just saying many of you have knives that are no longer visible and you might want to keep that in mind when you think... "i've already posted this one"...:)

I think most the knives that are posted on this thread are worth a look 3 or 4 times :D
