"Old Knives"

Stuart I'm not sure of the color. On my iPad it looks like a rich burgundy. Great pattern in amazing condition for its age.

That's a beauty Stuart !

Thanks, guys. Yes, Alan it looks deep burgundy in the photo; it more brown-reddish with dark/black streaks in "real life". I have some really dark cocobolo (almost ebony, but for the red tones) and some streaky that is lighter in tone. Maybe it was the light.

This one is kinda old and new at the same time. Some time back, Brett gifted this knife to me, but it had some shrunken/cracked black plastic covers. Since it was already used, I thought a new pair of pants would be appropriate. I picked out some nice dark ebony for it, but left the finish on bolsters and covers a little rough, to match the age on the blade. It's a fine carry, I've been enjoying it all week!

R8shell, that is a great knife! I love vintage HSB vintage folders. They were made by NYKC, Schrade among others. I would call that a pick or gouge bone handle treatment. With the hammered pins I would say pre 1930.

The broken main blade I would reconfigure or reprofile to the shape I have shown in the photo below. Just an idea but it would be fun to do and I think pretty easy if you have some aggressive diamond rods to get the rough shape and then step up to the medium and fine stones to finish it off. Have done this with a few knives I have and it gives you a real sense of accomplishment and satisfaction to restore a blade to something useful!

Good luck and let us see what you come up with!

I still could do a little fine tuning to the edges and swedges, but I think the knife looks pretty close to your mock up. :) I touched up the tip on the spear blade, as well. I still need a pick to open the spey, but I'll leave it be.

My latest Geo. Schrade Wire Knife came in today. It is a 1-27-42 Pat. mark blade w/bottle opener. I believe with the red liner it is from the Boy Scout Kit. Other picture is it with my other wire knife a Pat. mark 9-?-26 with hawkbill blade.
