"Old Knives"

Pal bought out Remington If I am not mistaken, ca. 1940.
I think you can see some Remington influence in that beautiful double-ender.

As well, nice Ulster from herder, Great NYK from Augie and a cool Rotgens from Mitch!!
We are privy to some of the greatest old, traditional pocketknives in the world here!!
Thanks for the kind words!

You are correct in this being a unique place, with so many people sharing pictures of their gems!

Great knives Paul and terrific analysis and knives Duncan.

Nice ones James, John ,Herder and Mitch.

Awesome knife, James! In my experience the Rogers bone Pal used (on almost every Pal knife I've ever seen) has a distinct lighter coloring that is noticeable a mile away! Looks fabulous!:thumbsup:

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this . I agree Mark,it is often a paler color, such as on this knife:

Picked up a fairly old one this week. I believe this stamp dates in the 1930 to 1946 range.
Between the sellers crummy pictures, the busted bone and his uncertainty of the material (he thought it was plastic) it came at a reasonable price. I wasn't sure either until it arrived. I was surprised at how pretty this bone is in hand and that it's saw cut. Happy Thanksgiving !

Thanks guys, Paul the blade is near full, it comes close to the end of the well when closed.
I'm going after a few old knives now, I plan on stepping up my participation in this thread.

Thanks Harry, in hand it's obvious the bone was damaged early in its life, the edges of the break are worn smooth just as the saw cut is worn smooth. For a right handed person it's perfectly comfortable but it would bite the fingers a bit on a lefty.

Nice knives guys, keep em coming!

Picked up this nice old Challenge Cutlery Corp split spring wharncliffe whittler with stag handles that have taken on a beautiful glow from age. I think this is an old Sheffield pattern which makes sense as many of the Challenge cutlers came from Sheffield.

Beautiful! That "plastic" is aged to perfection! It's nice to get a good surprise for a change!
