"Old Knives"

I have a number of ebony oldies, here are a few of them. Perhaps the one that you remember is among this group.

I only have one ebony HSB, this dogleg:

Your Challenge is the closest looking to Dwight's, but I was thinking you had one with the same shield as his too? It's still would not be definitive as to maker by shield alone. Thank you for posting your beauties as it's always great to see them !!!!!

No, I don't have one with a shield like that. It's a cool shield, I wish I had one.

Beautiful ebonies Lambertiana.

Thank you Duncan!

veitsi_poika veitsi_poika - Kevin, so would one assume the HSB was made by Ulster?
Dwight- It's hard to tell just based off of the shield shape and Ulster is not the norm when it comes to the HS&B knives... HOWEVER ;) in this case it does look to my eye like an Ulster and very similar to the one Herder posted: pin locations, wood quality, bolster shape, nail nick / long pull design and the swedge work on the mark side of your knife is a little wore down but the pile side swedge looks identical to Herder's. Is your jack a 3-1/2" or 3-3/4"?

Kevin it measures 3 3/8". Also, in case you didn't see it above, the secondary blade well is filled an additional 5/16" by the back spring wrapping around. Just thought that might enter into determine the maker too.

They are magnificent examples Gev. I really like gum buddy. :)
Unfortunately, the gum fuddy's blades are way worn down or I'd send it to you. None of those are good enough to send you my friend. I'll think of or find one that will honor your kindness.

Great Robesons! Quick question - is the left one 3 3/8 "?
That's an old picture as stated and I don't know exactly where it is, but its between 3 3/8th and 3.5". It's packed away to deep, sorry.

I will leave you a message on your profile

Thanks Gev, but please, no need to go through all the inconvenience! I was just wondering, since I've seen quite a bit of those smaller teardrop jacks from Robeson, often they have an endcap and most seem to be 3 3/8 closed. I was just curious if this one's too. I have one that's just coming back from Glennbad's. It had those black composite scales, but they were a bit beat up and I don't like synthetic materials, so I had him do some of his magic. Mine is 3 3/8ths, which makes it smaller than a GEC 15 but it's bulkier and just the perfect size for my hand. Yours have some great jigged bone, but they must be older than mine, which I think is from the 50s or so ...
