"Old Knives"

Good stuff, Augie and r8shell. I just acquired this nice Camillus #12 medium jack from the late '40s.
Would you call this Rogers bone, or what?

Looks Rogers to me, nice classic Jack.

Same!
Love those Jacks Jeff and Steve. Just Classic beauties.
I have seen the reference of Rogers Bone by many- a - knowledgeable people in the knife World- in saying this I am SURE that some time ago now when Rogers Bone was mentioned- Bernard stated there was no such thing - folks I could be wrong on this ok- but this really sticks in my memory as this being said by Bernard.

Hey Jeff - that would be quite a question to ask in Bernard’s forum - by posting your knife with the title “ Is there really such a thing”
Then start the post with “ Rogers Bone” showing you lovely knife.

Many many authoritative people have used and continue to use this descriptive reference so it must be?
Edit - man I HATE using my I phone with predictive txting!!!!! Also correct Spelling of Rogers Bone- not Rodgers.

I just did a little Google-fu, and found this article by BRL from 1987:
http://www.knife-expert.com/bonehand.txt

It says:
"Most of Rogers's pocketknife handle material was made in the
distinctive jigging pattern that collectors call "Rogers bone," but
that the firm in fact called "Rogers Stag."

Since I define Rogers Bone as any really nice, randomly jigged, brown bone, I'd say yes. That's very nice Roger's bone. :)

A Queen City small congress (think Queen 15, but smaller) from 1922-1932 and a Schatt & Morgan swell center pen from 1902-1928.

From what I've seen about early Queen (and precursors, Schatt & Morgan and Queen City), they used Rogers bone from the 1920s until they started using Winterbottom bone i 1946/47 (which was replaced for a while by Delrin in the late 1960s). So these are clad in some kind of bone.

R8shell- Thank you - well then I just wonder where I got this from then? Its good to see that- so thank you!
I guess it's a matter of just how literal-minded some historians can be.
Is there no such thing as "Rogers Bone" because the company called it "Rogers Stag" at the time? An existential argument could be made, but bone by any other name would jig as sweet. ;)

Well said, r8shell. When Queen transitioned from Rogers bone to Winterbottom bone, they dubbed the "new" covers "Genuine Frontier bone stag". During my early research into the Queen collection that I inherited from my stepfather, this simple sleight of nomenclature caused me a good bit of confusion. I've settled on calling the "new" covers Winterbottom bone (noting the ones that are Delrin) and sleep better at night.

Thanks for re-posting that link, Cal!! This time I printed it out to keep on hard file!
And like many here, I see, I went back to some of my posts to correct the spelling of Rogers!!
:D:D

Picked up this pair Saturday afternoon. EC Simmons swell center HJ and a gunstock Robeson with stamped bolsters. The main blade on the Robeson is stamped Hammer Brand and the pen is stamped Robeson Shuredge Rochester. I'm assuming the main blade was replaced later in it's life.
