I had to cheat on this one, doing a duck duck go search for "5 letter words with_____".

So yeah, this Wordle made me into what its word is, at least for today. ;)

Today's was hard for me but I got it on the 5th turn.

Nicely done, it was a hard word. And ironically, I tried fishface's "Arose, built" strategy, which made it harder. Not saying it's a bad strategy, just wasn't optimal for this one.

sgt1372 sgt1372 How funny is that! We both tried Ronin before Robin!

Yeah but there were a couple of reasons why I chose "N" 1st as the middle letter: 1) I was looking for a possible double letter and the "N" fit the bill and still made an acceptable word and 2) I just went w/my 1st impulse and didn't "thnk" about what other letters might work as well.

Actually, I wan't sure the game would accept RONIN as a legitimate word. I just hit enter to see if it would and it did. Then I was left to find the "correct" letter and I didn't "discover" the "B" until I used the "brute force" method of testing every remaining letter on the board.

The "B" just didn't occur to me until I saw it placed on the board. LOL! ;)

-------------------------------

Today's board made me take a pause because nothing "obvious" popped out a me and I was actually "forced" to think about the problem. When that happens, there usually something "unusual" about the word.

In this case, what was unusual about the word was that it began w/3 consonants in a row. This was revealed after my fortunate choice of the word used in my 3rd try. From there, I was able to figure out what the word "should" be BUT I had to give it some serious thought and couldn't rely strictly on "brute force."

Just found this thread, nice! We have been playing a friendly competition amongst my family. I'm ten days in, got them all; today was the first day it took me to 6 tries.

Normally I'm three or four.

Welcome to the thread! Join in, if you like.

FWIW, I've played all 240 games to date -- you can do that using the Wordle Archive (there's a link at the top of this thread). My "record" to date is a solve/fail rate of 97.5/2.5%.

Missed 6/240 for reasons that I understand now and will try not to repeat. Average 4.47; mean 4. I usually solve the puzzle in 4-5 tries (64.5%) ; 2-3 tries (15.4%) and 6 tries (17.1%) are the exception. I'm happy if I can solve it in 4.

I think you'd be exceptional if you can continue to solve all of the puzzles that you attempt in only 3-4 tries.

I got today's in four tries. I had to stare at it for a long time, and cheated by choosing my second guess without using my "yellow" letter. (Not allowed on hard mode)

You call that cheating???? What I did was cheating. What you did was... normal mode. Which is hard enough sometimes! And you still did better than me.

Haha, thanks! I have high expectations for myself, being raised by a family of lawyers, English teachers, and proofreaders. 😮‍💨
