On the Road Again with Merle

Happy to report that Merle has completed this 2,793 mile leg of his adventure, from Oregon to Syracuse, NY. He arrived in excellent shape, although it appeared that his package was dropped in a mud puddle.

I'm impressed with the engraving that Chip WValtakis WValtakis added to this storied knife. Very nice, Chip!

My wife, who is quite impressed by Merle, asked about the Altoids tin that arrived in the package. In all honesty, I either didn't know, or had forgotten what was in the tin. I assumed it's mints! She wasn't sure I should eat one! Awesome pin guys! She asked about Porchenburg and Sic Semper Flippers, (thus always to flippers). I reminded her that she might have heard a few off color words emanating from my den, as we negotiated our way through the always perilous forum knife process. ;)

Anyway, he's here, safe and sound and will be getting to see some of his sharp relatives in the coming days, as well as a few sights around our area. Into my pocket he goes!

I am happy that Merle arrived safely, Gary, despite the apparent mishap.

The tin of buttons sat on my desk for entirely too long before I finally opened them (I had assumed that they were mints....). The button is a very clever addition that Barrett ( btb01 btb01 ) included and it will be fun to see the "footprints" they demonstrate with Merle's travels.

A lot to be said for putting a shipped knife in a baggie for the trip!! Great Button!!
I have one to add if Merle ever deigns to travel to Canada!!
Too bad about the Muddy Landing, but it looks like no harm was done!!

Sorry, folks, I should have provided an update. There was some behind the scenes rearranging that had to be done due to some unforeseen circumstances. Gary stepped in a took and earlier spot in line, which then turned out to be even earlier than expected (thanks again, Gary!).

Glad to see he made it! Hope he’s less work than the grandkids! ;)😁

Don’t worry, Gary, you didn’t forget anything with regards to the pins. That’s just a little something I included for everyone who participated. I figured it would be fun to have a GEC-style pin/button/badge of the Great Seal of Porchenberg. Guess I forgot to mention it before… ;)😁

Here’s the seal that I originally posted earlier this year during the Forum Knife process, in case anyone hadn’t seen it before. Some of the details admittedly got lost in making it small enough to fit on a pin, but I still think they turned out pretty cool.

Outstanding both in work and humour 😆

The button is such a well executed touch! 😆 Merle’s adventures have been very fun so far, looking forward to NY!

Merle and I are hanging around the Casa today. Although it'll be unseasonably warm, we have a high wind warning and are expecting some rain.

I explained to Merle that it's likely because my snow blower is all tuned up, gassed up, tested and ready to roll! That's my contribution to a mild winter... being prepared.

Merle accompanied me to feed the birds. The turkeys weren't interested in inspecting him, I just don't have the charisma that CelloDan CelloDan has! :D ;)

We did a tour of the Casa, stopping in my work shop. He was interested in the Work Sharp, but advised me he felt sharp enough!
I did insist on "Oiling the Joints" and a little oil on the blade. He appreciated the attention.

Stay tuned! Merle's adventure continues!

Good stuff, Gary! Merle does like snowblowers… he tried to talk me into buying one when he was here. 😁

I had to run to Menards earlier to pick up a drain assembly for a bathroom sink that was leaking. That was the only thing we needed, but somehow Merle and I ended up on the other side of the store looking at snow blowers. Merle really wanted to buy one, but I reminded him that he needed to travel light, so he settled for getting his picture taken with them instead. 😁

Instead, I got to shovel 4 or 5 inches of snow this morning, but hey, at least it’s warmed up a bit from the single digits earlier this week. ☃️

Merle met some of his ancestors today. I told him I'm sorry, I either don't have or can't find all of them. He was impressed with the diversity of his family! He's even trying to learn Italian from Viper!

A couple of special pics with Merle and one of his 499? brothers or sisters :oops:
A long way from the 57 knives made in 2007!
