Yesterday my wife and I took a ride to our oldest son's home in Camillus. After we visited a bit, we took a ride to the village to show Merle a few sights.
My wife is a good sport and joined in the fun, although I'm sure she thinks I'm nuts.
We showed Merle the old Camillus Cutlery factory, which is now loft apartments and retail space.
We took a walk in the village and thought about stopping at the Saloon, but decided against it. The old factory is the sixth building down the street on the left.
Here's a cutlery shop that I've visited a number of times. Unfortunately it's not open on Sundays, so Merle missed spending some time inside. The owner has a very nice Camillus Cutlery Museum inside, as well as a retail shop. He started working at the Cutlery in 1975 and ended up running the Custom Shop. It's worth a stop if you're passing through.
Nine mile creek runs alongside the Cutlery Factory (not shown). I imagine that they took advantage of the creek for some of their processes, at one time.
We left Camillus and took the road to Marcellus, which runs along Nine Mile Creek. It's a pretty nice trout stream that I fish often, as it's about 20 minutes from my house.
We stopped at one of my favorite spots (William's Rapids) to dry fly fish for Brown and Brook trout. I've caught a few Rainbow there too. Merle appreciated the peace and quiet, after the hustle and bustle of the village.
Later yesterday Merle helped me cut up some sirloin steak for dinner. Good job Merle!
Stay tuned for more of Merle's adventure!
