On the Road Again with Merle

I think our very own Jack Black Jack Black has a star on the Walk of Fame. 😎🤩

(Sorry, Jack, I know you hate that, but I couldn’t help myself!) 😉😁
I’ll see if I could get a picture with that star for the giggles 😁

This is not a real suggestion (so please don't trouble yourself), but I immediately thought of Merle with Milton Berle.

Thanks for all the great La La Land pics!
It’s no trouble at all sir! If I stop by I’ll be sure to get some photos.

Hey everyone! As my time with Merle draws to an end I wanted to ask everyone in this thread if there’s any Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame they’d like to see pictured with Merle?

I researched extensively to see if Merle Haggard had a Star but unfortunately it doesn’t seem like he does!! 😠 Please let me know! I’m going to go on one last adventure with Merle this weekend then he’ll be shipped off to his next destination. I still have my adventure from the Griffith Observatory to share but here’s some photos of Merle with today’s mail call in the meantime. Thanks for looking!

I for one would like to see Merle and any of the Old Singing Cowboys that also made Movies . Tex Ritter , Gene Autry , Roy Rogers , Eddie Dean

One of my favorite places to visit in Los Angeles is the Griffith Observatory. I used to work down the street from the observatory and would sometimes even take my lunch up there, just enjoying the views and the fresh air, so obviously I had to take Merle here! It’s been pretty gloomy and foggy lately in LA but we made the best of it!
It definitely wouldn’t be a visit to LA without seeing the Hollywood sign either!

The Artwork when you first walk through the doors of the observatory is absolutely incredible.

There’s a lot of historical photos in the Griffith Observatory but these two are my absolute favorites and Merle agreed. What an incredible feat it was to land on the moon and I believe we’re going to be sending Americans to the moon again in 2024!

IaODW2C.jpg

One of the incredible telescopes is housed in here, I’ve had an opportunity to go inside and see it on a handful of occasions. Sometimes when the stars are aligned and it’s a clear evening in LA they bring out powerful telescopes and allow you to get a much better view of the planets. My first time seeing an actual planet through the telescope blew my mind. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do so yet I highly suggest finding somewhere nearby to you where you can experience a night under the stars!

Here’s a very cool replica of Galileo’s telescope! In the background in the corner of the room is something very special, a real life working Tesla Coil!!
qOyNtwh.jpg

They periodically turn the Tesa Coil on so I came by 10 min early to get a cool spot to have good photo ops because it gets crowded fast! This neon sign pictured in the background is not plugged into anything, when they turn the coil on the electricity in this nook powers the neon sign completely, it’s pretty cool!

On the underground level of the observatory they have three really cool Richter scale’s. This one pictured with Merle records vibrations of the floor. Yes, I jumped up and down so it would record my vibration!

Yesterday I visited the South Coast Botanical Gardens with my lady. It was a gloomy day with spouts of drizzle in between but it made the experience much more fun! There wasn’t many photo ops but there was one and this one was definitely more than enough! The fallen yellow leaves of a Chinese Maidenhair Tree made for the perfect backdrop!

Here is a sneak peak of what’s likely to be the last and final destination of Merle’s Los Angeles adventure before he’s back On The Road Again!

I almost forgot to mention! As I was leaving the museum today I decided to cruise down Zoo drive afterwards and in true LA fashion I spotted Jay Leno cruising down Zoo Dr. in some old antic car that I can’t even name with his hair blowing in the wind!

Another excellent adventure for Merle (and, vicariously, the rest of us)! I recognize the Griffith Observatory from a few different movies, but it’s great to see some of the things they have there.:thumbsup:

Looks like quite a crowd around the Tesla coil there. I get self-conscious taking a knife photo when there’s even one stranger watching me. 😁

And you didn’t stop him and talk him into taking a picture with Merle?! ;) It’s ok, I was always more of a Letterman (and Conan) guy.

I’m happy to have made his time in LA worth it sir! I’m extremely bold with taking Merle out and snapping my photos, maybe that’s why no one says anything! Funny enough I was standing right next to the good fellow who was operating the Tesla Coil and we had a small conversation about it afterwards but no one ever mentioned what exactly I had in front of my camera which is great 😆

I actually thought in my mind how extremely cool it would have been to have gotten a photo op with Mr. Leno, Merle, and his antic car 😂 Maybe next time!
The Griffith Observatory is a great L.A. institution, like the Natural History Museum and Hayden Planetarium in New York. The Hollywood sign is pretty cool, too.

I agree. There is a lot to see and love in Los Angeles.
There’s so much to see in LA! I was lucky enough to have visited the majority of all my favorite locations with Merle but there’s definitely a lot more that I couldn’t make it to this time.

Visiting the Natural History Museum in NY is high on my bucket list!

Hi friends! Merle is set to reach his new destination here real soon but I have one last adventure in Los Angeles to share with you.
A few days ago I asked about potentially getting some photos of Merle with some stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Old Engineer Old Engineer suggested a photo with Gene Autry. I decided to take Merle to the Gene Autry museum instead. Enjoy the pictures! There’s a lot of photos so I’ll separate this into two posts

The museum hosts a great deal of old artwork and artifacts and these two paintings were by far my favorite of the American West.

I’d like to thank btb01 btb01 for the opportunity of hosting Merle in Los Angeles, it was a great excuse to get out and adventure and I very much enjoyed doing so. I hope everyone enjoyed my posts and it will surely be something I won’t soon forget. Very much looking forward to keeping up with his adventures in Eugene, Oregon next!

Oh, and before I forget, Merle was here to witness a new milestone in my life. Since my girlfriend accompanied me on 85% of these adventures I thought it would be fun to share. If all goes well and according to plan I’m hoping she says YES! in a months time 😁

Now I can delete these photos out of my camera roll before she sees them accidentally 😂

Brilliant report,ta very much.

Probably a good idea you didn't try to replicate this scene with that crowd around.

What a fantastic museum, you've really shown Merle the sights :) That's amazing, good luck (though I'm sure you don't need it), and be sure to report back :)
