Once I got into fixed-blades... I just don't care about folders...

How are you going to carry it?

I like pocket sheaths... And then horizontal cross-draw / scout carry, for the less conspicuous and invasive carry benefits.

I have always carried a folder clipped in pocket. For the last couple months an esee 4 iwb 4 oclock. I have picked up a bradford guardian 4 and 3 that also go in rotation. Aswell as a couple other fixed blades that i need to get iwb kydex made for. Whats nice is here in arizona you can have as big of blade as you want.

Lately I’ve been carrying a couple different Spyderco folders, but normally I carry my Bradford Guardian 3 at work pretty often. I also try to carry my Guardian 4 whenever I get a chance. Typically I’ll bring it for outdoor activity like hiking, camping, and sometimes BBQs.

Fixed blade knives are awesome! And small fixed knives can be ALMOST as convienient as a folder while also being sturdier and having a more comfortable handle.

For me, folders are for convenience or concealability only. Fixed blades are my jam. I like fixed blades a lot more than folders and prefer them in every way for every task - except convenience and concealability.

When I need to quickly throw something in my pocket and go, I'll go with a folder. That said, sometimes I'll still stuff a small fixed blade in my pocket. If I'm able to choose any knife to take with me, best believe it's a fixed blade.

I've been beating this drum a long time - "if it ain't fixed, what is it"?

Fixed blades > "broken" knives

Mostly a folder guy, although I do like my CRKT Bita quite a bit for back pocket carry.

My fixed blade currently is a bit larger than typical 'small fixed EDC' - Ruike Jager - 4.3" blade and just under 9" overall. 14c28n goodness.

It's still fairly discrete, and amazingly useful for size - it's my main hiking & weekend blade.
The kydex sheath it comes with allows for horizontal or vertical belt carry, which is also good. I still plan on making myself a leather horizontal belt sheath for it.

I'm still debating if I should try to find a more minimal 3" or 3.5" fixed blade that could do 90% of what this one can do... I know they exist and I even have a shortlist but have not felt the need to actually buy a bunch to test out yet ; )

Because of UK law a lock knife is in the same category as a fixed blade. I EDC a Victorinox huntsman and if I need anything else then I always choose a fixed blade, I haven't owned a lock knife for about 10 years (aside from a multi tool). Also apart from wood carving knives I'm not interested in tiny fixed blades (ESEE Candiru etc...), the SAK does the job well and I like a 4.5 inch fixed blade for general use.

Since I´ve got Spyderco PM2, I dont know if I am going to buy another folder. For EDC, PM2 and victorinox can do pretty much everything. So for me: work, going to city - folder. For everything else: fixed blade.

Like the OP I'm a fixed blade convert. My Altitude goes with me pretty much everywhere with me. It's lighter than most folders even with the sheath and can be reliably deployed faster. With the right set up it's super easy to carry with any clothing. I got a decent paycheck Friday and impulse purchased another 0562cf after selling my old one but the more I think about it the less excited I am. I don't really want to go back to worrying about accidental deployments, gunked up bearings/pivots or lock failures. Fixed blades just work better.

Folders, fixed-blades, multi-tool blades, all have their uses for me. I don't see myself ditching folders anytime soon.

Sorry for the edit, but I just realized my four fixed-blades were bought one after another. I guess I was on a fixed-blade binge for awhile. Getting into fixed-blades didn't kill off my interest in folders, I rather think they complement each other.

To carry smaller fixed blades very comfortably, I like a kydex/plastic sheath with a belt clip inverted 180 degrees so that it hangs handle-down. Easy deployment and very comfortable. I carried an esee 3 this way for about 4 years. Still carry a gryphon m10 this way.

I’m with Eugene. They all have their place in the realm of uses. I sometimes find myself going to the sales pages to find interesting fixed blade knives because it seems General Discussion is most often about folders and I already have what I need. Or even want.

For eye candy (because this thread needs pics) here is the only fixed blade knife I am currently jonesing for.

EDIT: It's blade shape is the closest in production knives I have found that most resembles my Shirogorov F3. That is what makes it most appealing to me. The Shiro is an extension of my hand like no fixed blade I currently own. The TRC isn't hard on the eyes either. I think it's a very pretty hard use knife. It was designed to be a bushcrafter. 120mm blade length/3.4mm blade stock.

Have 2 Guardian 3’s (3v/saber & V4e/sheepsfoot/ffg) and a 3.5 in m390. Will edit in a pic when I get back.

Just bought the sheepsfoot and I absolutely love it. Don’t know why I waited so long (originally thought the shape was ugly... turns out I was being an idiot:D).

Four fixed favorites.
All sub 3.5" blades.

Fixed blades are for people who can't or are afraid to disassemble and clean folders.

Ahahahaha!! I kid, I kid!!

I still carry folders a lot, but have found myself using fixed blades more often these days. You can just used them harder. :)
