One Knife For a year...What would it be ?

Hey pitdog, thanks. I am going make one like 10" one, but with a 7" blade. Since reading Stan's and your thread about using one knife for a certain amount of time. I have been thinking about this too. I do not plan to go a full year or even 6 months lol, but for one month I am thinking about that.

sak farmer for me been carrying it for more than a year . Sak adventurer before that . Tinker for many years before that. You guys picking big fixed bladed must not have real jobs 7" fixed bladed hanging off a belt doesn't fly many places at work

Where I work people really don't care what is on my belt, as long as I can get the job done. Then again, I don't work indoors, so I can't really say anything for people that do.

If I had to go with just 1 knife for a year, My first thought would be a Leatherman Wave or a Victorinox Hunter. But I would probably go with one of my most under-appreciated knives, a Carbon V Cold Steel Master Hunter. Carrying it year-round on my belt is no problem in Texas.

I might have to consider carrying my RC-3. Small enough to conceal and big enough to get things done.

picutres later.

I've been carrying a Victorinox Soldier or Pioneer for over 20 years. In the woods I tend to prefer the Pioneer model because it has a lanyard ring so I can tie it to my belt. But I've never lost a Soldier model (without the lanyard ring) so I guess the lanyard just makes me feel better.

I have a few Farmer models that I know a lot of you like and it's the same except it has a wood saw.

I'd recommend either one.

I would chose my ESEE 4 as it has been my main use knife for well over a year now. It's always on my belt whether Im in town, in the woods, or on the farm.

Would have to be my BK7...... makes me feel work all over... lol

Just reading over the replies again it seems the vast majority would choose a knife with a blade under 5" and maybe even as small as 3" !

I'm also quite suprised how many would choose a folder.

It makes you wonder if we are very over knifed for most of the time eh !!!

I'll be honest buddy I spend so much time in sheeple areas that to just carry a med fixed blade at all times would be impossible and would find me in conversation with the local RCMP. For that reason when I do my 6 month challenge I'm going to have to have a small necker for when I can't carry the med fixed.

Yes, that is realistic in Canada. I have even been on remote northern reserves\communities and humping a F.B. would get looks. Although ironicly a nine year old native youth walking with a .22 through the community is nothing. I like my Becker BK-14 necker for many reasons and one significant point is that it lays flat and unobtrusive. If a knife is smaller I prefer a F.B. over folder for strength. Anyone spending a significant amount of time out of town eventualy puts thought into what they carry. The individuals that don't are in the news when S&R finds the body. I have been a hairs width from buying ESEE knives several times but I'm basicly loyal to Becker. I see great potential in the new ''Tweener'' line coming out late winter. The mini BK-2 looks near perfect for me. But for all round utilitarian bush\urban carry I'd go necker also. Although I rarely wear it in town.

That is my "3". If I could take only one- the Necker has seen alot of use lately for trail hikes and kitchen duty but is a little too short for wood processing so the LBK or middle one would be the "1".

urban carry it would be Fixed Blade H.E.S.T and SAK alox cadet

I'm loving the fact that so many of us would choose a SAK! So would I (or a multitool). Makes me wonder why I spend so much money on knives, when all I would really need is a SAK. Nevermind - spending money on knives if FUN!

I've found myself using my Breeden DeWeese an awful lot this past year. I don't do much chopping as a common chore, so the smaller 3 3/4" blade designed by Dall DeWeese for Webster Marbles early last century suits me fine.

Till last year I hadn't carried a SAK for maybe 20 years, I can't leave the house without it now !!!

If we were to disregard legalities I know I would carry something more substantial like one of my full size bowies. I find them easy to carry plus I find I can do most everything with them within reason. It's too bad we live in a world where inanimate objects like knives have restrictions on them.
