One Knife For a year...What would it be ?

Over the past couple years I have functionally actually used only one knife for everything for sometimes a couple months at a time. Been using the Izula II for about a year now, and for about a year before that I carried the shorter original version, both as EDC with a swiss army knife (used mostly for the tools).

When I head out for camping though I always tend to throw in this pair.

You never did say anything about axes :D Almost always have one around when I head to the woods. I think nowdays a small axe is often a more versatile woods/survival tool than a knife depending on the situation.

Realisticaly, a Koyote Model 57 would be all I needed for a year.

But this one would be a good choice I think:

I know it is large but I would choose my Gossman Big Boar Tusker. My choice has a lot to do with me living in the big woods up here. I always also carry a Leatherman Wave or Supertool.

SAK Recruit; I've carried this knife all over the world and never had an issue. Very sheeple friendly and carries enough tools to get one through almost any scenario.

That being said I'm glad I don't have to make that choice!

I think a B Goode Companion would be my ideal choice, though with what I already own, a good ol DPx HEST has more or less filled that role for me. I have so much trust in that little knife at this point I feel bad leaving it at home on backpacking trips, so it tends to wind up in the PSK as an emergency backup. I know of two knives for sure that I have carried every single day for at least a year, and they are a Victorinox Spartan (just this last year) and a Kabar Warthog Folder. Say what you will about that 4116 Krupp steel, but every blade I've owned in that steel has really liked to cut stuff. At the time I was workin' on bombs with the Air Force and it often got used as a screwdriver, a can opener, light prybar, wire cutter, etc. Fantastic little knife, that was before I invested hundreds of dollars into gimmicky SOG and Gerber folders and converted to fixedbladeism.

Wow, nice knife at any rate. It'd look great next to that Wetterlings Scout Hatchet! Common payday... I'd love to put one of those next to an orange-wrapped green Izula and stick it in one of those Kelty Cache Haulers...

It would definitely be my new JK.

With an 8 inch long 3/16 inch thick blade there is very little in the Pacific Northwest that I can't handle with it. Fortunately people aren't shocked by large knives where I live.

If we were to disregard legalities I know I would carry something more substantial like one of my full size bowies. I find them easy to carry plus I find I can do most everything with them within reason. It's too bad we live in a world where inanimate objects like knives have restrictions on them.

Oh, disregarding the legalities I'd definitely go with a larger knife, probably around 6 inches or so, but I live in the south. Up north I would want a larger, heavier knife for sure.
