One knife. That's it!

Of course, I will still have an axe for chopping.

I changed my mind. You should purchase the knife pictured below, as soon as I get it back from Paul Bos, and put handle scales on it.

OK. Flickr fail.

I would purchase the knife pictured below, a "Kompact Kephart" in A2 steel. Drill, slice, carve, cut rope, dig in the dirt if you must. This one will do it all.

tip-to-handle: 4.25"
OAL: 8.625"
Thickness: .125"

For my factory pick it would be a Benchmade 940. But if I could do anything I wanted I would have Alan Davis make me one to my specs. You design it and he will make it. Kevin :D

I guess that if I had to pick, it would be a Spyderco Military in CF with BG-42 steel.

Spyderco Delica. Done! It's practically, my one knife now.

I carry other knives because I own them and I haven't used them in a while or I'm doing something that specifically warrants a type of knife. I carry my Delica everywhere else.

Impossible question.
I can't even narrow it down to just one knife for my brother's wedding tomorrow! :D (actually, I guess it's today now, judging by the time...)

He's cutting the cake with a Viking sword.

Wedding crashers beware!

Folding knife would be a para 2. Fixed knife and overall would be my Al Mar Shiva.

If there was only one if your life depended on it.

-Affordable
-seamless one piece construction (front / rear guard , blade and pomel made from a single piece steel.
- no welding
- no pins
-no glue
-great steel 52100
- dual heat treated for flexibility and edge retention
- a choice of thickness 3/8 or 1/4
- hi quality leather sheath and fit or a kydex if you request it
- the blade canot be broken by any destruction test , period
- balanced well
- perfect symmetry
- lifetime warenty ( but you will never use it)
- hand crafted
- great communication (pictures) at every phase of the build
- a blade created for heavy heavy industrial work but elegant as a collectible
- serial numbered for added value on a resale
- his value to price ratio is not balanced correctly to the consumers advantage

I hope this answers your question, and no Frank does not ask for any help advertising , he caanot keep up with the demand of his custom knives.

This guy makes nice integrals. He has been doing it for a long time too. http://www.edmunddavidson.com/ed_mainframe.htm?ed_gallery.htm~main

As a gift and for not the rest of my life i would choose a manual mircotech doc, its got a flipper and its got the strider influence to it and cheaper than both strider and crk about like $325 for the model i want :)

But then i want bm 531, bm 755, kershaw tilt, custom SnG, pretty much give me every knife ever i cant have just one.

I wonder how many actually read OP's requisites before posting 'Sebenza!' LOL , easy , non grail knife would be first pick Military , can be used in the kitchen , outdoors etc in fact I'm not sure why you would want any other knife :p

IF there was an option for a custom , Des Horn Imvubu N77 , almost same blade length as the Millie but total length that of a PM2 !

I think the OP meant what one knife would you buy now - not necessarily your only knife. Below is my Christmas haul from several years ago. Yep, my wife is too good to me! I suggest the big boy - the Benchmade 171 'BladeSport' chopper. Always have 'enough' knife!

Okay, I'm kidding... although it's a bunch of CPM-M4 goodness. It remains unused - my only such knife. In all seriousness, and especially if you don't have a Buck 110, either get to a store and get a regular production variant or - more better and much gooder - go to Buck Knives' custom shop site and order one like you want - like the S30V bladed, nickel silver bolster, and blue Dymondwood scaled version below - less than $100 shipped - with a sheath. Made for you in 4 weeks or so.

Or - if they have any teardrop Damascus in - you have to ask - you can have this one, with it's nickel silver bolsters and flaming Koa wood, made for you. It was a bargain... and likely would be my 'one' to grab, if I had to exit my home with only one.
