I am going to have to say that the 7 rocks for me too. Never been to Arkansas but I imagine its hot, with hard woods, nasty critters and loads of wilderness. I want a lighter blade big enough to process wood, yet light and small enough to handle everyday chores, and still be long enough to reach the vitals on some wild critter say a mountain lion. Don't even know if they have them but I would like to have something to kill it with if they did. So as I said before 7 rocks

They've got hogs, cats, and all kinds of scratchy and toothy things. You make a good case for the mighty 7.... The score is getting closer.

Interesting..it's a virtual tie between the 2,7 and 9. Can't pick a clear winner yet.

After having gotten the BK 7, I must eat some crow. I still would pick the BK 9 as my "ONE" knife for survival purposes.

But, upon owning and using then BK 7 for the last few weeks, I like it very much and I poo poo'd it unfairly.
I love how light and fast in the hand it is. It has for the most part replaced my BK 2.

The thing is, I'm unlikely to grab my BK 9 just going to work or out for the day with the family, can't really articulate why. I do take my BK 7 out most days and leave it in the car though.

Still the BK 9 though for this thread.

Just too close to call. I'm declaring it a tie.

My BK2, BK7 and BK9 will each receive the Becker of my choice as prizes.

I only have the BK2 at this point, so I gotta roll with it.

I'd choose the 9. This is partly because I don't yet have a 7 or 2, and greater chopping ability is a given, but one of my favorite characteristics of the 9 is its reach.

I'm from Southwest Missouri, so the Ozarks are my home. My area of operation is plagued by multiflora rose, and I have found that cutting through that stuff with even a seven inch blade often leads to thorn contact with your hands.

With practice, the 9 can process small kindling, and is more machete-ish for clearing trails through underbrush, otherwise the clothes on your back may not last 30 days.

Personally I'd take the BK-2 (it's the Becker forum, and I like the BK-2) for its enhanced lateral strength, though the BK-7 would serve very well in all my needs out there also.

if i'm limited to becker knives, bk-9 otherwise junglas. from actual experience, it takes a tremendous amount of firewood just to boil water (you didn't say anything about having a hobo stove to increase the burning efficiency) so i'm taking the best chopper i have. add in the need to burn wood for heat and it's going to be rough. 30 days is a long time - i'd easily run out of wood i can gather nearby or i'd have to move camp fairly often or chop.

it took riz_aaroni and i 30 min to get enough firewood to boil a liter of water to give you an idea.

Not nit picking here, and definitely not knocking the Junglas or any other ESEE knife...I have several of them just not a Junglas

Just so you'll know you can increase the efficiency of your fuel by placing logs or stones around your fire to reduce the amount of lateral radiation and vector your heat where it will do the most good. The concentrated heat Also helps if most of your fuel is damp or wet. The physics are similar to those of the "rocket stoves" people make from bricks or stones, and those of the hobo stove just on a larger scale.

.

I'm gonna say BK9. IMO the blade length gives you more room to work. Baton with one part of the blade and retain sharpness on the unused portion. I might be biased b/c of my freehand sharpening skills(or lack thereof).
