Ontario Utilitac II - Best modern folding knife under $30?

Here's the wave mod I cut. I had planned to grind all of the swedge out but thought it looked just as good like this. I'll clean it up a little more in the next few days. It functions perfectly, one of the best I've ever experienced.

Very nice knife, I just received mine yesterday.I have several employee's and can see these as gifts in the near future

SOLID lock up, centered blade, no hot spots (for me) grip wise. Only issue is it came with horrible grinds  almost "Chisel" like. I can easily over look that. I had it rectified in about 10 minutes start to finish. I chalk it up to "near closing time on a Friday" kinda thing.

Very close to even grinds when I was finished...

wow I ordered mine 30 days ago and it was backordered , it finally got here and it was worth the wait . This thing is stout.

made in taiwan. no thanks.:thumbdn:

You know, that's all I ever seem to see you say. So, I'd like to ask. What are you wearing right now? Care to have a look at the labels? Oh, and the computer you're posting this on? Yeah, you may not want to check the country of origin on any of its parts. Or your car. Or any other appliance in your house. I think you're going to be very disappointed. Just saying.

Wow, backordered? This thread really must be making the 'Tac popular as hell lately! I'm glad you like it, man. What version did you get again?

And to Mr. Paul Hilborn: your pics are great! :D

I got the satin plain edge tanto blade with coffin scales .Here it is sitting on the bumper of my truck.

So, I got one for cheap, right? I figure, why not. People seem to like them, I'm trying to lower the overall cost of what I carry, might as well try it out.

I dislike the black on black on black SO MUCH.

So I fixed that.

Stonewashed the blade, reprofiled to 40 degrees inclusive:

Stripped the coating off the blade, gave it a high-polish satin finish, gave it a heavy stonewash, polished, anodized for a distressed bronze look:

Anodized the liners, making sure that nothing was too uniform:

Added little purple and blue notes at the butt:

I really like how the locking side liner turned out where it interfaces with the tang of the blade. A nice, rich, matte gold color (best seen in picture 2).

I hope you don't mind man but in soon as I get my acetylene tank refilled I'm gonna anodize my liners too , that looks freakin awesome!

And how do you sharpen the recurve in that blade?

Holy hell that looks sweet!!! Great job on that one, 'uppy!

What do you think of the knife now?

Seems like slot of us lean towards the tanto because we don't like sharpening the recurve. With that said what are the draw backs of a tanto blade? This is my first tanto.
