OOPS!!

I'm glad you guys are having fun!! Think of that poor knife!:(
Never to pare one's fingernails, or tighten the screw in one's glasses! Or pry loose the lid on canned peaches. Its future life flashed before its eyes, then happened all at once!!
:D

It was sent by a dealer/friend. I am trying to get it back from him; why? I don't know!!
Shame . . . . . but stuff happens!

Can't blame you for wanting to get it back. It'd certainly make a unique addition to your collection. :D

I don't blame you for shopping for armour, Jack!
Actually, the only time I have lost a knife, it was in an envelope - has happened twice I think.
Both times the knife squeezed out through a tear, and disappeared.
I hope that Barlow above got its revenge, and broke a few gears and levers!! But it seems it had to be a fork or a truck! Can a sorting machine chew that hard?????

Cheers Charlie, I think one of those lost knives was from me :( The only other time it's happened was recently (bubble wrap and double jiffy bags thoroughly mangled). and despite the damage to one knife and loss of another, neither USPS or Royal Mail were helpful. I guess we both ship and receive a lot of knives...:(

I think you are right my friend, that is some serious damage

Gee Charlie, that looks like one of my knives after I've abused - errrrrrrrrrrrrrr used it. That knife would fit right in with the "Three Amigos" that I sent to Sarah.

When bad things happen to good knives...sad to see that one got mangled. The pics made me cringe a little bit looking at the extent of the damage.

I work at the USPS.
That is pretty cut and dry. Shouldn't be a problem.
Perhaps you could help with a claim Jack and I are having issues with. It is a very similarly delivered knife. The claim is getting rejected with the statement that the package "contained goods prohibited by the United States." My local office was not very helpful. They told me the knives may fit under the ''dangerous goods'' category and therefore not legal to ship.

Incredible isn't it? I like that word 'may', don't they even know? I'm sure that most US citizens would be shocked to learn that a humble pocket-knife MAY now be deemed 'dangerous' and 'prohibited'! They just seem to be wriggling out of paying up, but it would be good to hear from you Monofletch Monofletch

I suppose that’s bound to happen once in a great while. Just think of all the knives going around in the mail every day most of the time they get there just fine

They do, though they often take a long time to get to their destination, and take a rather convoluted route. The word 'Priority' doesn't seem to count for a great deal beyond getting stung at the post office. Accidents are bound to happen from time to time, but what happens after that makes a lot of difference. There was another thread about this very issue not so long ago, and folk saying that it didn't matter what happened to your mail, you weren't going to get paid out on the insurance. That's been my experience so far, and I recall Dave @Horsewright had had a couple of particularly costly lessons on the way to using a courier service rather than USPS. Not that this seems confined to USPS at all

I think someone needs to learn their job. If mailing a knife is prohibited why did the USPS give me an award for bringing Busse Combat Knives to the the USPS from UPS?
I know it can be frustrating, but hang in there. I will get you some more info today at work.

The following is from the Postal publication 52 - Hazardous, Restricted and Perishable Mail. See, no problem!
