A while ago I posted about a knife that had been sent from the US to me here in Finland as part of an exchange.
All's Well That Ends Well, fortunately..
But not without angst..thanks to USPS and their counterparts in Europe.
Knife was sent out on 21st December, Wooster OH. Arrived Chicago the next day. OK, Christmas looming but it stayed at Chicago O'Hare airport awaiting transit till 31st Dec. No movement or tracking info after this. More than odd because as soon as something arrives in Europe at a hub like Amsterdam or MÜNCHEN you get notified, usually takes say 12-24 hours between leaving the US and arriving in the EU, then the tracking goes on as it arrives in depots towards its destination.
My parcel remained rooted in Chicago, still waiting. I contacted my trade partner who was very helpful and concerned, my knife arrived in the US just after Christmas. He was annoyed with bullshit from the local PO about 'backlog' in Christmas mail - a month to get it on a plane???:grumpy: So he was going to send me a replacement-very decent of him. Then I get a letter from Customs in Helsinki, the parcel arrived wth them 23rd January, 33 days to get there! Still no info from Tracking, still in Chicago, ha! Local annoyance at this end, Customs has all my info as I regularly pay import tax on-line, but they never text, call or e-mail when something appears, oh no snail mail
is their method, still.

So I get online and state that's it's a gift etc and they decide if it attracts tax, that's Thursday 26th. They quickly e-mail back that it's going to be sent up to me by Posti. I hope for Friday, uh uh no delivery, ah well Monday at least. No, not even then, it finally arrives Tues 31st Jan safe and sound, 6 weeks delivery time but still the tracking says it was in Chicago... Once a package arrived from the East Coast to here in 3 days delivered but that's an exception, let's hope 6 weeks remains a record too.
MORAL Don't lose hope, things go slower than ever in the digital age

P.S. Just checked the tracking again out of interest, apparently it's still in Chicago! even though the knife and box are in front of me now, ridiculous!
