Opinions on folding knife blades being centered.

I prefer centered blades but sometimes it really doesn't matter. One of my favorite and most used knives has an off center blade (Benchmade 710). The blade doesn't rub the liner but it's pretty close. It's an expensive knife by my definition but it was new and it was sold by the merchant at a very good discount. Benchmade 710s are strong knives and, other than the centering, it's perfectly fine. It's a knife I bought to use hard when there is hard work for a knife to do. Since it wasn't a perfect knife to begin with, I don't mind beating it up. And I have. It's scarred and scratched and I don't mind that at all. Now if I were to buy a knife as pocket jewelry, I would certainly be more picky. Then again, I don't buy knives like that.

I'm not sure it's been mentioned on this thread but knife centering shouldn't be an issue on most pivot adjustable knives. The only knife I own that I can't center myself is my Sebenza 21...and it's the only knife I own that is not perfectly centered because there is no possible way to make it so. I don't know if the MKT knives have a pivot bushing or not, but personally I like the fact that I can just crank my Seb back together without having to adjust it at all or use any Loctite, it gives it a real heir of quality and prestige...but a tiny bit of that is taken away by its slightly off centered blade...oh the irony!

Am I completely oblivious or just stupid? I don't see any issue with the OP's knife aside from the uneven washer thickness, which I have had MANY folders using in the design when the washers aren't the same size.

That sounds like so many posts in here...."aside from ________" it's perfect.

Same size or same thickness on the washers?

In addition to what you spotted, his blade won't center when closed. He gave a car payment for the knife. It has a cocked blade. Plus, as you noticed, that's a pretty gross situation going on in that knife's pants.

Kinda like you and the pics--I said a little more, didn't I? :D

Well, this is a knife forum and normally we post pics here. However, beating a dead horse about something you've been saying for the last 5 pages is redundant.

Anyways, here's another knife that is perfectly centered:thumbup:;)

Speaking of a dead horse, that's one fugly knife, dude. Conoco?

Most of that 5 pages was addressed to others than you. You don't like me talking to other guys?

What's a Conoco? I've heard of Ray Laconico, but this Conoco you speak of escapes me.

Anyways, the previous 16 posts you've put in this thread are repetitions of your personal opinion. Redundant, kinda like me posting another pic of a knife that is centered.

Some of knives are centered. Some are not. The ones that are include: Spyderco Delica 4, Spyderco Paramilitary 2, ZT 0350, Cold Steel Recon 1, Ontario Utilitac 2 and Buck 110. The ones that don't include: Ontario Rat 1 and Kershaw Blur S30V. But those two get used the most, are both liner locks, and both are on the cheaper end. Somehow my Utilitac 2 is centered perfectly. And I don't use the more expensive knives as abusively. I mean..my rat 1 was $30. I used it to baton kindling in half (lol) and the liner got wedged farther on the blade and was actually stuck open. I brought it home, took it apart and placed it in a vice and used pliers to bend it back and it actually works fine now. It's not centered AT ALL, but there's no scraping sound and it's just aesthetic. As for the blur, it will make the scraping noise if I open it lefty, fortunately I'm a right and it pushes the blade opposite of the side that it's off centered on.

Think I saw that one in the grab jar last time I stopped for a Slurpy. It was centered too. Almost bought it with my Slurpy change.

You're way too interested in me, Conoco. Am I going to have to forbid you from reading my posts?

Okay, now the thread is about this...
Google gives no clue as to what the bloody hell "Conoco" is supposed to mean.
So spill the bans, pal! Give up the info. Slide the knowledge our way. Enlighten...I think you get the gist of it. ;)

Centering is not a big deal at all, IMO. Some people care about perfection. I have one of my favorite flippers that lightly rubs against the side opening and closing. One of my best flippers, smooth and fast, and all it has is a tiny scuff mark. It has been that way since I got it and it has worked perfectly for years!

Well....I can only tell you it's an ancient latin word. It goes back to the Fifth Century B.S., when King Tutumnumzaamen nicked himself for the first time with a new Emerson and screamed a string of words...

Ah yes, that is before the historical period I mostly studied, so I was unaware of it. :D

My spyderco southard is off center. Very annoying, as it cost a pretty penny.

My chris reeves are all perfectly centered, how it should be on a high end knife.

even the cheap Case folder is centered, and it was about 30 bucks.

So what was the outcome?
Off centered blades are annoying, similar to the repetitive rants we have seen in the last 5 pages. Trying to ponder which is worse as I play with my crooked knife reading the rants..

I've had many cheap knives (like Rat's, Zancudo's, and chinese ones) perfectly centered, and many high end ones off centered (i.e. ZT's and Spyderco's).
this is not fun at all. I expect ANY knife to be centered.
