optimum edge holding?

I wouldn't envy my situation too much, I'll be forced to liquidate most of my collection to get this, Which is why I hesitate to wait seeing I'd be without a friend for a while :(

I understand, but what you are asking for is a custom knife with steels that almost nobody will work with and with the blade ground for optimal slicing and hardened for max edge retention.

The closest thing to what you want would be a Military in S90V that has been reground VERY thin behind the edge.

But then you would have to find one, pay a premium for it then have the blade reground.

how about the A.G. Russell Acies. the blade is 3 5/8" ZDP @ 64-66 HRC.

he could also have the blade re-heat treated to around 62 HRC.

ZDP really isn't all it's cracked up to be. ;)

I tested a ZDP blade that was very thin and the edge just fell apart on me cutting some rope and cardboard and that was at 65 HRC, it looked like a serrated blade when I was done. ;)

Anyway, no you are not unreasonable at all to know exactly what you want.

thats rather depressing... i was about to post the seb in the exchange for one of those bad boys...

as for jim, i have 6 knives. i bought the sebenza. i like it. i love its quality but there are things it lacks that i wish it didn't lack and would gladly sell and or trade it to acquire a knife with that level of quality with those traits

You could always have a blade made and fitted for it. :)

Intriguing concept but the handle on the seb isn't quite right for my tastes and it would be the primary source of funding for this knife

Just trying to save you some cash and give you other options. :)

I would talk to some custom makers and see what they say. :)

you boys are gonna get me in trouble suggesting things like that. rex is. oh my that would be . I just have no words for that idea

I'll post in the custom forums here pretty soon. I see that ray has been reading the thread. Maybe he'll pitch in ;)

Rex 121, yeah just want until you get a quote on that one.

That or Vanax 75 if it ever comes available.

REX 121 will be expensive.

i believe kershaw is releasing a knife with vanax 75, the tilt i believe.

Not anytime soon as it's not available and won't be for awhile and Vanax 75 will be around $80 a pound or more.

I saw a thread about a custom strider in rex that got me all kinds of excited ha ha... too bad the strider handle in no way appeals to what my hand seems to prefer.

Vanax75 you say, I've read the name before but I haven't seen much for specifics. Could you provide them?

Ray's been on that reading section for some time now....

If you want a certain steel you may have to hunt some down to provide it yourself to whichever maker's knife design you choose. I know that a lot of guys do this with damascus.
