Just offering to u guys before i post for sale

Yeah I know, but I've seen similarly worded posts in other parts of the forum recently, and those posts caused some heat for the poster. Just trying to keep that from happening to you green.

Thank you guys for the help. Sorry to bother you all with the excessive amount of questions, just trying to learn here lol.

I hope our mail-lady comes a little early tomorrow, or I won't be able to get any knives if they come in. I have a dentist appointment, and I have to leave at about 12.

You should never apologize for asking questions and wanting to learn man. Don't worry about it.

I don't know have you seen some of the questions he's asked? :p
Just kidding Knotty. The only stupid question, is the one that isn't asked. Probably one of my favorite motto to live by is in Chris' sig

Hi y'all, got my edgepro in, just did my skyline took about an hour, but its popin hair on both sides! I did 220, 400,600, pant leg strop, at 19 degrees per side.

Now I'm going to try and thin out my jyd2, using 120 grit.

Question, do you have to form a bur? I have yet so see a burr???

You should be forming a burr at least at the finer grits you end up using. I try to form a burr right away so I know I'm apexing the edge along the entire length of the blade. Then again, I usually just go to 220 or 400.

Feel free to live by it. I'm all for taking risks, but I've learned from work, school, travel, being a musician, etc. that you always need to cover your ass one way or another. Something can always go wrong, and you've got to make sure that you're covered or just out of there.

How long should it take to form a burr?

It depends on the grit you're using, the steel, the angle, etc. The time it takes to form the burr is the time it takes to actually fully set the edge bevel. The burr forms when you've apexed the edge, and the stone is contacting the apex to the shoulder fully. That is, provided you're lowering the angle. If you're making the angle more obtuse, then you'll likely form the burr right away since a higher angle will necessarily start by apexing the edge.
