Order of KAI Official Hang Out; Part Deux - It's Enrico Palazzo!

What you shouldn't be saying, is that they might be gifted one, by someone else. Then they may feel guilt tripped into giving him one.

Come to think of it, it might not be a terrible idea for the forum to have a few loaner knives lying around specifically for that purpose. Most people wouldn't need it, but again it might take the sting out for someone who's last very dear knife has been stolen or lost to be able to play with a new or different one. And it crosses my mind that there might well be people on the forum already who have that in mind. It need not be a giveaway item at all, to be appropriate and timely, and appreciated.

Until someone runs off with it.

Honestly, if you're blatantly losing knives over an over, you're probably not responsible enough to use one. I understand if you lose one here and there.

I have to say, I'm impressed with the level of camaraderie and maturity at USN. Here, not so much. Just sayin'.

BTW, I could be completely wrong. Often are. Hope so.

What I should do Stick is just forward you the money, then you can send me a nice example of your favorite carry model ;).

I thought the same on the Prometheus lights. They are the same size as old Maglights and such.

I had a Jetbeam, a DC30, that I liked until a brother lost it on lend.

Likewise the only Lens Light that appeals to me is the Mini single output. Simply because I do like really simple output settings. The Jetbeam was a bezel twist with 30 lumen low ( if I recall properly) and 300 Lumen High.

You should totally do that. I'll likely be picking up a ZL SC52w for a good friend of mine. He saw mine, and got way jealous. So, I'm going to see if I can help him get one with a good tint. I remember the DC30 I think, seemed like a good light. 30Lm is a bit bright for me for a low, as I've gotten used to the sublumen modes and a decent 1-5 lumen low. That's just for my use though, since I use my light at night and in theaters quite a bit.

The thing is with the larger high end and custom lights, is that for single AA and CR123a sizes, you can get that output and build quality from production lights. 500lm from a 14500 Li-ion is pretty nice, and I just dig mode options. :D

What light are you using now Steel?

My ZebraLight shipped today. Excited.

OoOoOOoo, which one?

That's pretty complicated but I understand what you mean. My take on what Dave did, gleaned from his own comments, is that such occasional largesse is part of his business plan. Thus, I didn't have any qualms about mentioning it. And he's an adult. He's not going to feel obligated if he doesn't want to be.

Why would I, if they don't post regularly on USN or are members there? That would be a bit stupid, don't you think? And of course they were doing it to be nice. Why else? They wanted to take the sting out of being ripped off, a little bit. It's very human, just as inventing infractions of vague rules is human.

Well, you have a point sir. I should have made the offer myself, though I don't have any premium knives to lend. But maybe that would have guilt tripped someone? Anyway, I appreciate your thoughts.

What Dave does for people is his business. It's not your business to suggest he do so for someone else outside of his discretion. It's as simple as that, and if you need to attempt a more complex explanation of it, it just serves as an obfuscation of the truth that it's just not your business to put about what Dave might or might not do. He can read, and he does read, this subforum. If he's going to do something, he'll do it. Again, it's not your business to put about something like him giving gifts because someone simply posted online that they lost their knife.

If you want nice things to happen, then do them yourself. I've given many an item to the guys here from flashlights to knives to sharpeners. I do it of my own accord, and it's my business to do so. It's no one else's business to go ahead and say "sticktodrum might give you something, he's been known to do that." It's insulting and inappropriate, because no matter how you attempt to cloud it, you're putting forth an expectation you have no business putting forth.

Yeah, no. Losing a knife is the price of admission when it comes to taking your knife with you. That goes for every object, even ones that don't leave your house. It's ridiculous to try to have some situation where people put their knives forward to be passed around because someone posts a thread that their knife was stolen. If you'd like, then when you see someone post that, send them your knife and ask that they send it back when they can afford a new one.

Well darn, he said it better than me. Thanks Mario.

Mario, I'm going to bother you with another flashlight question, if it's ok with you. First I got to make sure, I use the correct terminology. One sec.

Nevermind. Research is too hard.
Mario, can you (if it's not too much trouble) recommend me a flashlight that has a....well. A twisty ring that changes the brightness. I don't mean like my Thrunite T20, where it switches modes, but it adjusts the brightness. You know what I mean?

Just to be clear I leave in the morning, I'll be in a hotel tomorrow around midnight. I don't actually mind all nighters, I have six or seven 2000+ mile road trips under my belt, I'm used to them haha.

I have no idea haha. And I agree Michigan is beautiful.

Went to Michigan Stadium back in 08 for a game against Ball St. October in Ann Arbor is nice but those bleachers are cold as hell. My @$$ was numb after the first quarter :(

some of the higher end streamlings offer three brightness settings based on button press time length. I know two of mine do, and they are tough little buggers

I'm guessing you mean a magnetic control ring? If so, you've got the Sunwayman lights like the M11R and the V11R. There are older versions that are still available in some spots, and a lot of folks liked the V10R. They have a collar that runs on a track and changes brightness as you twist it. Also, there's the Jetbeam RRT-01 which has a control ring. I have one right here, and it's a pretty nice light. The RRT-01 and the V11R have infinitely variable control, so they act like dimmer switches. The M11R has three measured output modes, but still uses a control ring.

^The RRT-01 is currently shipping with an orange peel reflector (better than smooth in my opinion), and with an XM-L2 emitter depending on where you get it.

Is that what you were talking about?

Stick, I'm sure you're a great person even if you're not proving it to me at the moment. I understand perfectly what you're saying, but I'm not sure the dividing line between right and wrong is a stark as you make out in this case. If the largesse is part of his business plan then the whole point is word of mouth. Thus, the notion that he wants to keep a 'low profile' may be something that reinforces your biases, but have little to do with this case. I get that you're a man with brave and strong opinions, and you may well be right. Lets assume you are. "Forgiveness" is pure sentiment and something you can't fake without feeling resentment and anger. Gratitude is different. I can extend my gratitude to you for your position even though you probably know I'm not all that grateful. I have faith that I should be grateful even if I'm not, so faking it until I make it is an acceptable position.

If you want nice things to happen, then do them yourself. I've given many an item to the guys here from flashlights to knives to sharpeners. I do it of my own accord, and it's my business to do so. I could say the same to you about your moralizing, which was sort of what I was doing (admittedly without much justification). I'm never sure how much of my own moralizing isn't self-justification, but I certainly find nothing wrong with your advice. Let's do that, OK? And thank you for weighing in. I know you feel the obligation to be the adult in the room, which is a sense that will serve you well as a teacher.

Well, I can't very well counter with an argument that you have an obligation to be generous. Nevertheless I've been around enough to know you are, so you're not always following your advice there. To the extent that you are generous I'd feel honored to follow your example.

That's exactly what I was talking about.
I might get the JETBeam. I'm really liking it. Or the V11R. Which one would you pick Mario?

As long as I don't get into pens, I should be good :D
