Second question......How the hell do I get the lens out and replace it?
The bezel unscrews, but there's a bit of a trick to it. What I do is take a shoe (a new shoe, one I haven't worn) and press the bezel up against the rubber sole. Putting pressure, I twist to unscrew, and after a bit I'll feel the grit of the threads upscrewing. After a turn or so it's loose enough to do by hand. The tricky part is the red rubber gasket around the lens. It's not actually an oring, it's a thin gasket that sits around the lens, as it's square with a channel in it. It can tear pretty easily so it's a bit of a pain to get out. Some are easier than others I've found.
What sometimes works is to insert a battery and lightly push to move it out a bit, then take some fine tweezers to pull lightly around the gasket until it inches out. I've also just grabbed it with my fingernail and pulled it out. Then I took a new 3M microfiber and cleaned the lens.
If you're going to replace the lens, be careful and get one of those rocket blowers for camera lenses. If dust gets in the reflector, the worst thing you can do is blow at it with your mouth. You'll certainly blow spit on it, and then you can just kiss that reflector goodbye. I've tried cleaning a reflector before with a lens cloth, and a lens pen. I could never get it clean again. So, when I was futzing with lens swapping on the S10, I used the lens blower. I tried canned air also, and it seemed to work. I ended up just putting the light face down after I took the thing off, and blew it out before I popped the lens back in.
It sounds worse than it really is...but it isn't something you want to just do on a random desk while you're doing other things. I say clean your working area thoroughly, and gather the proper tools and cleaning items. Proceed carefully and don't force anything. Also, get new microfibers. No used or washed ones. New from a package. Trust me.
