Oregon Knife Collectors 2025 Show

When I spotted a wallet in the shadow of my display case, I thought "some poor guy is gonna be hurting!!" Imagine my surprise; and glee, when I saw Duncan's name and face in that wallet!!! 😁
It didn't take you too long to come by, Duncan!! Glad it rested momentarily in a friendly place!!

You sure scored a nice bunch of cutlery my friend!!
Oh Boy! I'm so so lucky it was at your table - thank you once again, that was an extremely lucky break for me.
Congrats, Duncan, on leaving your wallet in good hands! Was there any major damage to any of the knives?
Defacing the Moran should be a capital offense.
Thank you Jeff, I can't polish the scratches out too much on the Bolsters as they are a Satin, the Edge of the Micarta you can still feel with a fingernail, I need to get that out a bit more. :)

Duncan, I can’t say most of the words that came to mind when I was reading about the mistreatment of your knives by customs, because the Porch is a family-friendly subforum. 🤬 That’s just absolutely terrible and completely inexcusable. You are right, I suppose, that it could have been worse — at least nothing went missing — but still…

That’s a beautiful example of one of the finest collaborations between waynorth waynorth and GEC (and we all know there have been some really good ones).:thumbsup:

Duncan, you’ll have to forgive me for using the “laughing” emoji reaction to this post — I only laugh because I already know the outcome. (Plus, Dave laughed first…) 🤣

I am glad your wallet turned up quickly and easily, and in some very trustworthy hands. Disaster averted!

That’s a beautiful Moran Barlow you picked up! I hate that it was damaged by the ineptitude of that worthless excuse for a customs agent, but I do think Mike’s knives deserve to be used, so it’s good that it’ll be a user for you.

Sitting at that big table in the Airbnb the first day we got there and getting to handle Mike’s knives, I was amazed how by thin they were (and, of course, they’re as well made as any I’ve handled). As I’m sure I mentioned when we were in Oregon (and probably in this thread), buying one definitely was not in my plans for the weekend, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Here’s mine at a local brewery this past weekend.

I agree Charlie- Barret that is one very nice Moran right there, of course I forgive the laugh - life needs a lot more of that, and we had a few over there- Just the best time with the best people.
Definitely a disaster averted my friend - I still feel that relief you know!
Yes Mikes knife will be a user - all be it a careful user - not a take it to work Knife. ;)👍

Maybe it wasnt in your plans, but hopefully the financial blow has softened greatly by now, and look what you have! so I'd say it was a great move on your part.
Oregon was a custom Barlow Extravaganza for me!!
From the top;
>Mike Moran's first Barlow, Christened and carried by the Man himself!!;)
>Curved Set, by Evan; delivered 7 years after I asked for them (in 2018!!)😲
>Stag Long Beak, by Rhidian ; His latest and greatest of five that I own!!😁

Oh man.... just LOOK at that line up!! Three of the Greater Custom Knife makers best right in front of you.... Your a lucky man Charlie and I am so glad that all these fruits of your hard labour have been rolling back in abundance.
I don't eny you however Charlie when reaching out and trying to decide which to pick up! For me that would be many months of all those knives on the desk top and continual handling to get over the first excitement stage of receiving such knives ( does that sound weird?).
Glad you like the wallet and HJ, Duncan. Meeting you will certainly be a highlight of my year.

Horrible how they treated your treasures but glad none of them were missing.

Paul
I more than like them - I love them, the feeling is mutual, I am aiming for not next year, but the year after. - I had better get a job at a local gas station in the weekends, and buy a Wallet with one of those auto wind-in springy strings attached to my belt
Campbellclanman Campbellclanman !!
Duncan, I feel your outrage at finding your knives so poorly handled by a true Cretin!! It proves the customs people are poorly paid, nincompoops!!
We pay so much to fly, that a higher level of respect is warranted!!
Thanks Charlie, Sue asked me if I am going to claim, I think if I was local, I would definitely be going in to the Customs service department and ask for the manager with also a follow up in writing perhaps to a more senior level about having a good look at themselves and use this as the start of a process for injecting pride back into their teams.
I often use a negative in a Workshop and ask the lads and lasses how do they think we can turn this negative into a positive, and we usually have a good outcome and it creates a healthy work environment. :)

I have quite a few knives I picked up at the Show, so instead dumping the whole lot down, I will add at a more relaxed pace....

Here is the first purchase from a group of Bill Claussen & friends. Like everyone says about this show its full of fantastic people - and this what is driving me to go back.

Wallkill River Works, Walden Harness Jack, I love the punch on this New York Knife Co made Knife, the punch is one of two that Wallkill used as a brand of NYK Co. This is the unpatented version and a real beauty if you ask me. This was a great start, Just look at this Knife! i just love everything about it, NYK Co's Bone is simply superb isn't it?

Speaking of New York Knife Co
(copied from old knives post)
Here is a rarer one I picked up at the show.
A large New York Knife Co. 4 Bladed knife with ARMY KNIFE shield. Although Carbon spotting the Blades are full, and typical NYKCo the walk and talk is excellent.

This knife has a punch so very similar to the Mayer punch, but it is one of NYKCo's Punches not too often seen, J.E Fuller have two Punches under the Patent name of J.E Fuller, but this knife throws us a curve ball- the Punch is correct, but the cold stamped Patent is a different date- this seems a factory stamp - I have seen this punch and own a few of knives with this punch, but this one here the date holds a little secret, it may never be found, it will always be on the shelf for me though to seek out just why.

That really nags at me - the unknown.

Campbellclanman Campbellclanman sorry to hear about your issues with customs, that's awful. Enjoying watching your pick ups flow in though!

Thank you kind Sir 👍

The damage was mainly to Mike Morans Knife that I have seen so far, on the older knives that are not so superbly finished as Mikes, so there may be the odd scratch and ding- I hope as I go through them that I don't discover more. :)

While on the subject of New York knife Co

My knees kinda buckled a little when I saw this, The knife has been cleaned, in saying that it seems to have led a blessed life.

I like this Harness Jack Knife a lot!! Gorgeous Bone, The best of the NYK Co punches the Fuller Spiral Punch, Neal kindly found the catalog page with this knife as we were discussing the Scout shield - and bingo there it was - thank you Neal.

The knife seems to have led a blessed life.
Quite a gorgeous orange blend with a Tan coloured Bone.

Off one of Bill Clausens friends, for the life of me I can't remember his name Charlie - He is of lean build, Glasses, wore a Cap. I will try to find out his name, I saw him at Mark Zalesky's Table quite a bit. :):D

Picked up a Camillus made Scout made for Sears, just before 1940 to late 1941, the reason I say this is that there is a 4 bladed Trooper that has a Utica Lightening strike Punch, Camillus used this at times before the Spiral Punch that was advertised as the new type belt punch in ( I think ) 1938 - 1939.
So here we have a Sta- Sharp Standard Trooper that actually has the Spiral Punch, and Sta-Sharp lost it's Crown to Sear's CRAFTSMAN lead brand name in the late 1941 and the beginning of 1942 onwards.
So within a two year window.
The etch is there or should I say a strong impression of the Etch is there, gorgeous Bone, a standard Trooper etch I haven't owned up until then.

Love the Colour of this Bone!

im saddened to hear it was damaged in transport, but i suppose as you once said to me, "that'll buff right out, Jack!"

some of my souvenirs from Japan also suffered some minor damage in transport so i understand

Thanks Will!!

Oh mate! Sorry to hear that Jack! wow Japan eh! lucky you, well done

I am trying to stop buying Harness Jacks that are in moderate shape, but I just can't quite help myself there, I have obtained almost a pile of L.F&C's in the Harness Jacks- some have bad Blades but great Punches, some have poor punches with good blades, and a mix of the two different sorts of Punches as well as they were picked up because they have different Tang Stamps - so they still have a monumental purpose for me in studying them - quite sad to where I have go to in life 🤣

So, this Remington serves that purpose, although Remington didn't mix 'n match too much, It has nice Bone, Acorn shield of course with the punch and ..... a Punch!;) So I kinda picked it up,apologies in advance as it isn't a show stopper, but I can see through it's wear and there is an awesome knife sitting in front of me.
I just want examples of the punches.
As you can see the Main has lost some Steel, but I'm thinking the last owner really like the knife- it's used but not abused, and used a lot - so that's a bit of history packed into this wee thing.

Composite scales, but a Clip point with a Utica Lightening Strike Punch - as you can see, Punch is short a little, and it's been cleaned!!!!! Yuk...it was a close call me buying this knife or not, I recall Charlie stating that a polished Knife has lost all it's history- down to the original Cutlers handling - that hit home to me and I couldn't agree more, you'll note a lot of my knives I post don't even get the paint removed from them etc- I am not all that worried about trying to present the knife at it's best - I know what the knife is, I usually work the knife though with Oil in the joints and most times I regain Walk and Talk with snap.

So...this one has been polished- I am thinking .....did mrknife mrknife own this once? 🤣 But then I thought he cant have because the Punch hasn't been removed.

Seriously though, It is over polished, the Punch is short - but on the whole I like this Knife although the faults as well as Composite Handles, it has the arched UTICA Tang stamp which is always nice, and I am going to use this knife once I clean it with Disinfectant through out then rinse well, Oil the Joints and use the Knife on food in an attempt for the knife to earn some sort of honest patina back again, not by leaving it in a apple- but by using it as you should and pocket it again, that way it will start to look better, and I will feel better about the Knife.
I did put the knife down and walk away, but came back thinking I would rather have the knife than not - so here it is.

Now, if you though you over thought your knives - don't you feel better that there is someone a lot worse off than you?😂🤣🥲

The streaks you see is Mineral Oil.
