OREGON KNIFE SHOW 2019

Nice pics MCar, arizcowboy, waverave, lamco and csavage! My laptop quit recognizing my SD card, hopefully it will work on my desktop back home. I am safely back in Canada and halfway home. Will post the rest of my photos when I am back home on Wednesday evening.

Well, I had a fantastic time at the show yesterday.

I got to hang out with Charlie, Barry, and Dave. I met a few other forum folks but I missed several others. Charlie let me know I missed Neal (@herder) by about an hour and I was rather bummed. Hopefully I will get to connect with him next time.

I did not spend any time taking pictures, I'm afraid. I am not fond of crowds and tend to be hyper aware spatially. I am glad other folks got around to taking pictures though, there were some really fantastic displays there, including several Bowie displays (which were my favorite). Dave's Schatt & Morgan display was simply excellent and not only showcased his excellent collection (or a small part of it anyway) but it also covered a nice range of ages and eras/iterations of the company as well. There was an excellent Remington Boy Scout display, a custom Buck display, a Knives of Old San Francisco display (awesome!) and numerous others.

Just an all around excellent time.

I met Chris at the GEC table, that was a pleasure. It was fun talking to her about the run of 97s, she was absolutely floored at the sheer number of orders they got in for that pattern. Not something they were expecting at all. I imagine that she got picked clean on Saturday as most of what she had available, I already have examples of. She did have some nice Stag on hand, some 82s and 06s, if I remember correctly.

In terms of acquisitions, I spent my money on my wife and kids. I got a set of GEC steak knives, a pairing knife, and new pocket knives for them all. I had my eye on an old Shapleigh D-E that Charlie had sitting in his case and he very generously gave it to me (in exchange for a coin, of course). I am still absolutely floored by this, I am not used to such generosity personally. Which you would think I would be by now, considering how excellent "The Porch" is here. Thank you again, Charlie. It was an immense pleasure to see you and the gang again and I very much look forward to the next time.

Sounds like a great day and that is a beautiful knife :) Hopefully next year I will get a chance to meet up with you :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Just back from the show, tired but satisfied! Much horse-trading and dickering produced a fine complement of take-homes of which I'll post after a good rest. Thanks to all the BF members who were able to make the trip and stop by for a bit of CE & CF plus a little lively knife discussion!! It was great to see you all!!!! Really a great show this year, and I'm already making plans for next year !!!!

Glad you made it back safe, Barry. It was great hanging out with you a bit.

I feel like I was real close to getting a facepalm out of Pàdruig Pàdruig when I showed him what I picked up.

No way, man, I don't judge. :D Though pink is not really my color, there is nothing wrong with that knife. I hope you enjoy it!

Regardless, it was great meeting you and putting a face to the name. We will have to hang out again sometime soon.

The show was anything but a face palm, I can tell you! Fantastic!!
I am finally home and (somewhat) caught up on sleep. I am just setting up to scan some knives, so stay tuned!!
Thanks to all for the reports and pictures so far! Nice to meet up with so many BFers!!
This was one of the greatest Oregon shows in the last 15 years, that I can recall!!

Great to meet you Charlie can't wait to see what you scored!

I was overwhelmed with choices this year, so of course I overspent!!:rolleyes:
Fortunately, sales were just as good in my direction, so that helped immensely!!;)
There were many Scout/Camp knives to choose from, so I picked up a few;
Nice to see one with a clip blade, and nice to see a minty Schrade Walden!!:)

More to come.
See the next post!!

Last but not least; A Cattaraugus and a Camillus! The Catt, rumor has it, was also produced in Pearl and considered a "Scoutmaster Award" knife or some such - anyone know??
Most of these have a broken opener blade, and almost all of those Catt compasses are not working - sigh. Nice little 3 1/8" knife though!
Odd Camillus tang stamp!!??

There was an old friend/dealer at Oregon who was selling an estate of several thousand traditional knives, for the family involved. I was looking at a couple of trays of scouts (holding about 24 knives each) when he pulled out a tray of WWI Navy knives!! "Don't you collect these?" he said!
Trying to appear calm, while my heart went "Whoop Whoop Whoop", I said "Yes, I have a few - let me have a look!!" I tried to select a few that I didn't have, or that were better than my examples!! Here are the results. I would have bought more, but I was trying to be judicious!
Navy 1.jpg
The first three are Imperial (IKCo), Camillus and Challenge.
Navy 2.jpg
The last four are Canton Cut Co, Schatt&Morgan, Cattaraugus and Hammer Brand (NYK).
The Catt and NYK are heart-stopping!!

WOW Charlie and I had to miss the best OKCA show in 15 years:(! Great haul and such nice “just like you like to see them” condition! Glad your sales and buys sort of balanced out as he told his wife;) I am planning for next year and hopefully your dealer/friend will be there with some stragglers to sell:thumbsup:
