OREGON KNIFE SHOW 2019

Unfortunately, I was unable to make it today. My daughter had a soccer game scheduled (first of the season) that ended up getting cancelled anyway...

Regardless, I am going to be there tomorrow, probably around 10am. Hope to see some of you there. If not, there is always next year.

Made it home...long drive :) ~9 hrs each way for me and I got to spend a grand total of 3 hours at the show today :) All good, it was so worth it. I had a lot to cram in 3 hrs though. I wanted to make sure I got a chance to visit with the Porch section of the show ( waynorth waynorth , @gunstockjack & @knowtracks ) before things got too busy. It was cool to meet MCar MCar and others (sorry I suck so bad with names) too! Then I had to comb every table and visit with folks as quick as I could. Next year, I will be there Thursday night through Sunday. I definitely want to be there for Friday next time and I definitely want to have a beer with the crew Saturday night. This year, I had to work Friday and tomorrow morning the wife and I are heading up to the wine country for a few days while our son is on his school Washington D.C. trip ;)
My impressions of the show...awesome! I finally got a chance to meet some Porch members and other collectors and makers and look at a whole lot of knives. I also got to talk with Chris from GEC for a while which was a nice treat since I am so far from GEC and the rendezvous and never have the opportunity otherwise.
I was a little surprised there weren't more GECs out...was only a few tables selling GECs the rest that were slipjoints were primary older traditional or Case. I'd say slipjoints represented maybe 10-20% of the show. The rest being mostly fixed blades, customs and moderns...plus some tables with handle materials and steels, tools, etc. It was a really good mix of all kinds of knives and knife-related things.
Above all though, everyone was very friendly and it felt very porch-like the whole time. That was what I was hoping for and that's what I got!
There are already photos of some of the displays posted but here are a few others.

You got some great pictures there, waverave waverave ! So glad you got the Scouts and those long blades from the Southern Philippines. And, yes, the S&M collection displayed by @knowtracks was quite impressive!

It was good to meet you in-person, waverave waverave .

I also left pretty fast, but returned later in the day with my sleepy-head kids. We met waynorth waynorth , @knowtracks and @gunstockjack. These gentlemen were very kind and generous to my three kids, gifting knives and buttons while teaching them the tradition of giving coin after a knife is gifted, lest the friendship be cut.

Our haul for the trip consists of those knives, buttons, a wonderful book, some OU apparel, a #15 and, best of all, the start of some friendships. We just got back home, so I'll post some pictures tomorrow when we have the light.

If you can make it, the Oregon Knife Show is really, really wonderful and a great way to encourage your children to take to the hobby. They all remarked on how kind everyone was and they feel like they are "collectors" now.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your kindness to my children. It's had quite the impact on them.

(tried to get all three of you gentlemen in the shot )

Darren, great on-the-scene reporting and pics! Excellent loot as well! It's unfortunate that I didn't get to meet you, or anyone else, on Saturday. Mine didn't go as well. I thought I plugged my phone in for a charge Friday, but no. Dead Saturday morning. No alarm, so I woke up late. That meant less time at the show. Squeezed in 3 hours of fast perusing. It wasn't nearly enough time. I did pick up a few more pieces, then I hit the road. That drive back to the Bay Area wore me out.

I haven't even unpacked my loot yet. As soon as I can, I will post some pics. It was a great show, and I got to meet and talk with a lot of great people and vendors as well as see and talk with people and vendors I already knew. It was a great experience that, God willing, I hope I get to have again. Again, great job in capturing the event, displays, and participants.

Oh no! Glad you were able to score a few things and get home safe though. Looking forward to seeing what you scored

That is a wonderful photo with the Family and 3 All Stars in the world of knives...… That is definitely a wall hanger...…. I wish I could attend as it looks like a wonderful show requiring a tremendous amount of preparation..... My hat is off to all that made the show a reality..... I am planning on attending GEC Rendezvous in August...…. My hope is to meet some members of the knife community that are active here on BF...…...
