OT- Best .45?

I HATE 1911's :D

Kimber would be a top choice for me. I've never had a failure after thousands of rounds, including reloads. Another one to look at that I haven't seen mentioned is Para Ordnance. Great guns and service. I've got a P12-45 and a P14-45 that have never blinked, also with many rounds through them. They are both double stack, but they now offer single stacks, and they've got their LDA trigger that feels awesome, though I've only dry-fired them. Here's some pics -

Para P14 - only pic I've got, sorry for the Rat :o

Para P12 - only pic also, sorry for the Rat again :o

And my Kimber, actually with a Busse this time :D

FWIW, when I bought my first pistol years ago (10?) I first went to my local range and went through 50-100 rounds in each of 5 or 6 different guns. A 1911 (.45), a pair of Glocks (a 22 and I believe a 23--though I might've swapped that for a 27), an H&K (think it was a USP?), and a Sig. All the plastic was in .40 S&W.

End story, I bought a Glock 22 that day. I needed something simple, dead-nuts reliable, and hi-cap. The ONLY gun that had any issues that day was the Sig. Multiple FTEs. I know a sample size of one does not a distribution make, but considering the fact that all the guns I rented were equally beaten up, it put me off Sig and I haven't shot one since.

After 10's of thousands of rounds the Glock had one FTE on a crappy reload that I limp-wristed. My Kimber has had one FTE on a 30-year-old crappy reload.

Yes, I wind up with lots of crappy reloads...have to save the rest of the world from using them! No, I don't do my own reloads.

The Sig is understandable, they sent out some sub-par magazines and they should have been recalled. Get a new mag for that gun, it would prolly work fine

I couldnt be happier with my Sigs. I've played with the 220 a couple times I may have to pick up a 220 Combat. I want to like 1911's... I shout a GSR that was dead accurate and a pleasure to shoot, I shot one that had multiple FTL's. I've shot low end Springfield 1911's and a high end Colt Comp. grade... They just never appealed to me the same way the Sigs did... The HK45 is a close second, but I could never get it to aim quite right. Go with the 220!

H and K. Can't go wrong. My tactical is like a swiss watch and the regular USP is better than anything else I've ever owned, which is Ruger, SW, Colt, Glock, (never shot a Sig, though, but hear good things)

I want something with a 5" barrel, with good sights, that is accurate and reliable. No bling!

Go find yourself a used S&W 4506.

Really.

They are practically indestructible, feed anything, possess decent accuracy, and meet your requirements with either adjustable or fixed sights.

I prefer the short version:

Another shorter option that no one has mentioned is the CZ-97B, which is a real sleeper. You need to have large hands for this one, though. 10 rounds of .45 makes for a fat grip.

sigs have perhaps the best ergos out there. but i am not a fan of decockers. the sao 220 seems like a real nice gun.

the decocker was a solution to a problem that did not exist.

Very true, Mark, re: the decocking lever. One reason I traded my P9s for a G-17.

The S&W 625 gets my vote as the best .45 ACP.

If what you want is a 1911 type, for $1200 my money goes to STI. The fit is top notch. The cosmetics are not as nice as some $1200 guns but you get your $$$ worth.

I like the CZ 97B as mentioned above, but I have XXL+ hands. If your hands are not larger than average you may want to handle one some before commiting.
