I remember when silhouette shooting was all the rage in the 80's. Those Silhouette Model 29's were in high demand for "Production Class" guns. I didn't any money in those days to get into competitive shooting, but that version Model 29 always intrigued me.

Thanks for posting the photos. I have not seen one of those in quite a while. Your knife has a lot rich character also.

Thanks Phil,
I use it to shoot against my Dad. He was a State Silhouette shooter and one day maybe ill actually win one hahahaha. 44mag has to be my favorite round! Wish I could take half as good of pics as you, the spalting on this KEB is just amazing. Love your Reviews!

Thanks!

I had to bust out the machete today and make sure it was up to snuff with the upcoming return of THE WALKING DEAD

That is a nice Texas Set Johnny! Love my Bond arms and am sad to say I don't own a Lonestar EDC, that might be a sin being in Texas! Do you like the new improved trigger and hammer they are doing now?

Thanks for liking my photo Redbird!....in my opinion bond arms makes the best "derringer" style pistol on the market. Far superior to even American Derringer. The feel, the look, everything. You need to work out your trigger finger to fire an American Derringer and many of the other cheaper types. The Bond however, is far easier. The new hammers are cool too, easy to get a touch on and pull back. The icing on the cake is that you can change the grips, barrel lengths, etc. makes it fun....the one in the photo is snake slayer 45colt/ .410 shot shell. Being from Texas, do you have the Bond Ranger with the texas star on the grip??

As far as the lonestar, I love that model....its one of my two favs. In fact it is the knife that got me into Fiddlebacks. Snag one when you get a chance. Btw love your model 29....awesome!

Hey Johnny,

Yea I have a Texas Defender but it has the old Hammer and Trigger. I found out that I can send it into Bond and they will switch out the parts but it cost $100.00 last time I checked and didn't know if it made a big difference or not. If you get a chance you need to get their jumbo grips, the are just the right size to get a full comfortable grip and they are thick! Bonds are built like a tank........ Just like a Fiddleback!!!

You guys aren't helping here... I've had my eyes on those Bonds for some time. They seem like just the ticket for concealed carry in the kinds of clothes and environments I'm usually in. And everyone I've talked to say they're just a hoot to shoot. What calibers do you have experience with?as a small gun, what kind of recoil do they have?

Michael

How is the recoil on those Bonds in .410, full magnum or 10mm loads. My thought is that it would be pretty stout.

Michael,

In my opinion they are fun to shoot as a novelty...load and shoot, flip it open re-load, etc....but not for three boxes at the range. The recoil is substaintial I suppose, but nothing unmanagable. If you get the extra large grips, it is far easier to control. I also feel that shooting the bond in the .357 is more diffcult than the one i have (45 LC/.410).
As far as concealled carry, well......Let me preface that i love my bond arms and would recommend it to anyone who likes the look and the novelty, but it would def not be my first choice for concealed carry. First off, it is not as small as you might think and it is heavy. Not exactly sure what you specifically are looking for, but if it is function I would go with something like a Beretta Tomcat or a Ruger LCP before a Bond. Again, bonds are super cool but not that practical.

It is, but not unbearable....the .357 is typically stiffer than the 45Colt/.410, but of course you could shoot .38s in the .357 model and have an easier time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not so sure it's really a "best choice" for me, either. It's just really got me intrigued. In my profession, I'm in and out of a lot of people's homes, quite often those of folks I don't know, and quite often of folks who have a good bit of "history," legally speaking. I have honestly never really feel threatened or in danger, but as my family grows I get more paranoid, I guess. I don't like sacrificing weight for shoot ability, so the heft isn't a dealbreaker. I have always had a thing for big bores (let the comments fly!), so that preference comes I to play. I think the simplicity and overall "flatness" of the package is where the appeal lies. And while I'm not rabid about it, I do prefer to buy things made locally. Texas isn't really "local," but it is more so than most gun manufacturers of small handguns.

Michael, I'll put my .02 in if you would like. If you refer back to post 20 my Beretta PX4 sub compact is a fine CC option. 13 rounds of 9mm or 11 of .40. It has a thumb safety which I love for CC as Glocks and other striker fire pistols have never made me feel comfortable. I may be over cautious but it is what it is. It also a "chunky" gun which makes it manageable to shoot, you can take it to the range and shoot a couple boxes through it without any discomfort. It's heft makes it a little more difficult to carry all day, and it's not a pocket gun, but it is very manageable. I carry at 6oclock.
I currently carry a commander size 1911 in 45, mostly because I just think they are awesome and they supply a little style and novelty with their incredible function and stopping power. I don't carry every single day and am never really in questionable environments so comfort never really is a concern of mine.
You may also like the M&P sub compact shield, I believe they have a thumb safety as well and an optional mag extension that makes range shooting more fun.
I don't have a lot of firearms because I don't have the money, otherwise I would own dozens, so when buying I want the gun to fill as many roles as possible. I want a gun I can carry, will do its job and has the firepower to stop a man (this is why I don't carry small calibers like 380) and I can take to the range and enjoy shooting it.
If you like 380s the Bersa is another fine option and very manageable to shoot, cost is right too.
If I was buying a new CC piece right now I would likely be looking at the M&P shield, Beretta Nano, or possibly a 3" 1911. Springfield makes a sub compact 45 that looks great but I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to shoot at the range after several rounds. Hope this helps.

I think that was at least a dime's worth, not two cents! 😉 Seriously, you've given me some things to think about. I don't think I'm heading toward a purchase within 6 months right now, but I like to research and hear others' experiences first. I'll definitely look up the sidearms you mention! Thanks again!
