OT/ Glock .45?

Thanks. ^
I'm not ruling out a 1911. I always wanted one.

Get a 1911 Unc! Its funny a friend of mine that I shoot with a lot always brought his glock 45. He was a sharpshooter for the army, has worked for armories and is currently a gunner for the DOD. He got a hold of my Les Baer 45 and he literally could not go back to enjoying his glock.

I like Les Baer FWIW.

IMHO... and i emphasize opinion ONLY, there's no benefit to a 1911 unless you're planning on doing competition shooting. The additional 5 rounds that you get in a Glock, along with the overwhelming dependability as compared to a 1911 in anything LIKE a similar price range makes the Glock a no-brainer for me

I LOVE my 1911's, but in order to get one that i'd trust as much as my G22, i'd have to spend 1400-1600 on an Ed Brown or something similar.

If 1911's shoot better for you, or feel better in your hand, then that's what you should carry, but that's not the case for me.

Here is another thought for you Unc. The same friend researched for months and finally settled on a Kimber for 1300$ because he did not want to afford a Les Baer like mine. He waited 6 months for his Kimber order to be filled and we again went to the range and he was still disappointed by comparison. Better because he had a decent 1911 but the shooting experience was NOT the same in his words.

My Les Baer was not much more than the Kimber he waited 6 months for. Just some thoughts. I have only bought one pistol in my life. So the price was not a HUGE issue :)

glocks aren't a problem if you are used to gripping something big and hard. at least for me.
on the s&w you can adjust the grip for either a left or right curve.
at least you got the calibre right on spot.

Just before people go and get touchy about anything I said, I don't care what anyone carries. I am simply sharing an experience. I went in looking for an HK 45 and walked out with my Les Baer. Everyone I have let shoot my 45 at the range has preferred it over their non Les Baer 45's. Thats all.

i have the hk 45, it is a huge, big, large, cumbersome pistol, it's also very big. although it shoots very well, it's hard to conceal with a small pony walking by your side. good deal you skipped it! imo

FWIW, if you're really interested in a 1911 and don't want to spend a bunch of $$ the first time around, check out the American Classic II. Google it. I don't have one YET but I'm a shopaholic/researchaholic and this is what I'm going for.

went from carrying a browning HP back in the 80s, to a 1911, then to a Sig Sauer P226 then to an HKP7m8 and finally got to the Glock.. still have a great love for some of the others, but for carrying around everywhere, Its the glock.. 26,19, 17, 22,35 and 21.. have never had one fail and they always hit where I want.

Glocks are okay, but I like to stick with my 1911s and M&Ps. For me the Glock just doesn't fit my hand as well as a 1911 or an M&P. They are very reliable and simple, but I love the classic 1911 or the great feel the M&P has for a plastic gun.

I have a older 30. Doesn't feel as good other .45's in the hand but I shoot it well. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger, never jams, and is very accurate. 11 rounds of .45 ACP on tap in a compact package, what's not to like in a working gun.

The glock is ugly and a little blocky but it is super reliable. I've never had a problem with my g22. My uncle is a LEO trainer and sgt. He was on the range when a friend put a 9mm by accident in a g22 mag. His friends g22 functioned and fired the 9mm and ejected it. He said it sounded bad but it was amazing. I wouldn't do that but it says something about the functionality of the piece.

It also says something about the trainee that mistook a 9mm round for a 45 round??

I do not have a Glock. I have tried them at the range, and the grips feel like a Block.

As you guys know, the .45 is the caliber for close quarter knock down.

It is about as simple as a rock.

glocks aren't a problem if you are used to gripping something big and hard.

With abject apologies....and thanks....to my fellow forumites:

I really love my Glock!
It's simple as a Rock.
Shots never "hang",
Always goes bang,
The slide has a tight Lock.

The haters they might Mock...
Their views are quite the Crock!
The .45?
Sakes alive!
Bad guys down it will Knock!

The handle's like a Block
Fits like a comfy Sock!
It's big in hand
For me that's grand!
I'm used to my big....

....Clock.

Er.....watch.

I prefer the feel of an m&p to a glock, but I'd get my hands of a few different types before you take the plunge

Wow. Thanks everyone. Me head is spinning.
Since I live out in the country, I might not really need the .45.
I looked at a 1911 but whoa, they are more expensive than I realized!!

There are a lot of choices, a LOT of choices. S&W, Glock, SIG, Beretta, HK, Ruger, Springfield, even Taurus and Colt all make good products. It is like asking for an EDC knife- there are many good choices. A person's preference in materials, size, caliber, action type might reduce the list a little bit. As was mentioned, Springfield makes good products at good prices, even Ruger makes a good 1911 these days. The big double stack Glocks are good too. Nobody will dispute that they are ugly, nobody will dispute that they are reliable. But not everybody likes the grip or the action. The double stack Glocks are BIG. I have large hands and they feel big even to me, as do the double stack HK USP's in .45ACP. The Glocks in .40S&W and smaller are smaller guns and fit most peoples hands well.

If a person really wants a 1911 then that is what they should get so they aren't forever wishing they had gotten one when they had the chance.
