What does that thing weigh?[/QUOTE]

When you take off the light , lower rail , bipod etc. it's not that bad and shoots very well.

My little AR totes better but 223 is for girls :)

If I was shopping right now though for a semi auto, I would be seriously looking at a good AK/PSL/RPK chambered in 7.62x54R for the versatility and lower all around cost of ownership/use (880 rnds for ~$200 but stock up NOW and don't wait for possible import restrictions is the only downside). Also, the fact it is a round that dates back to the 1800's (if I remember correctly) and performs every bit as well as a .308 but with a little more thump doesn't hurt, I believe Mosin-nagants shoot that round as well, among others. You also can't go wrong with the short russian 7.62x39 in an AK, SKS, Ruger Mini 30 or Sig556R either, though the ammo has gone up in price a lot more than it's big brother.

As of Sat, two different LGS by me had the GSR new in stock for fair prices. Black Friday one of them had them for $749 with at least four on hand when they closed. Y'all need to put out feelers once in a while and you might find things quicker. ;)

Yes, sadly the the GSR takes AI mags, but thankfully it also takes the Ruger polymer 3, 5 or 10 round mags which are smaller/shorter (10 vs 10), lighter, cheaper(normally) & quieter with excellent lockup for no wobble. The metal mags they ship with were the only complaint I have with mine. It is a very accurate scoped or iron sights, yet light and easy to maneuver powerhouse, it doesn't need a scope, but with the extended LaRue mount, you can use some nice glass on it that is very easy to remove quickly when needed. A P220 equinox matches it quite nicely to cover both ends of the spectrum near & far.

Noice!!

Joe your photos seriously make me drool. Doesn't matter if it is Busse's, Knight's, guns, or otherwise.

Has any one tried the 6 mm calibers ?
Such as 6.8 spc,6.5 creedmoor and 6.5
Grendel ... Or what about the 300 AAC
Blackout ?

Many have proven themselves on the long range market such as 6.5 BBr

I am a meet and potatoes guy and like to stick to fairly commen rounds like 233 and 308 in assult type rifles and of the two I greatly prefer 308

I have many long range rigs and especially a little suppressed rig that I very much enjoy in 308 and I like being able to run the same loads in my bolt actions and semi autos like the Socom and my Galil

If you are not familiar with a Galil that is IMHO the finest AK variant out there with a machined riser vs the cheap stamped on of most AK's

Problem is they are going for 5000 + these days in some markets

was in the same position years ago. I bought a m1a. but that was a tough call between a FNAR and a FAL.

I wanted a fairly short rifle in .308 semi auto rifle with decent accuracy out to 100 yards and iron sights. When you hit the $1500 price point it does get tricky because you have to refine tour goals a bit. You can get a Mini30 and customize it to taste with all of the accessories and be right at $1500. That's if you are not being particular. This would make for a nice and piratical rifle. You could also either get 2 AK variants or maybe just one nice AK. If you won't be hunting then there are some nice bolt rifles to look at. I personally think the FNAR is a good choice. There are times I really wishe I had gone with the FNAR over the M1A. I like the M1A but for my purposes a FNAR would have been just fine.

recently I picked up a milled AK and I have been really happy with it as far as quality. If you are leaning towards a AK rifle maybe google Aresenal SLR101s and see what people are saying about this model. Don't know what the chances are to find one or what they cost but if you can find one I think it's a good buy.

I watch a sight called slickguns.com to see what deals are out there. just click the rifle option and you can et an idea what the prices are like out there.

and here are my choices....

Cheap stamped!? You hurt my SG21's feelings. That bugger looks awfully heavy, I wonder what the weight is on that thing...

Very good choices indeed :)

FN FAL.........go over to the falfiles.com........read up a bit, fantastic rfles..my favorite 7.62 by a mile. Can still be had for a decent price depending on the flavor, mags are not real expensive. Plenty of good gun builders to help out. The right arm of the free world!

Nice rifles. Yes, the FNAR is a very good way to go if you don't need iron sights, otherwise the Ruger GSR is a great choice that is lighter and shorter.
Here's my FNAR.
