OT: Survivor Sidekicks (photos)

Haha they rarely get along! The Border Collie (Ellie) is my clients dog and she's a very independent pain in the butt. Kimber seems to think that Ellie is her mom so she always tries to be right next to her. That typically doesn't end well!

remind me of kimbers breed again? Kinda lazy with the search feature today and she is just too cute. Lando is all flop, couldn't move his ears if he tried, love the bat ears!

She's a Red Heeler or Queensland Heeler or an Australian Cattle dog. They have so many names for the same dog!
It's a mix between a Dingo, Dalmatian, Black&Tan Kelpie and a blue Merle Smooth Collie.

did the requisite wiki-level research, looks like you have a real winner there sir! similar traits to the puddle of fur I have.

I am glad everyone has shared there pets, and the stories that go with them good/bad/happy/ or sad. They are an extended part of our little community, they just can't use keyboards. I'd love to hear more about how those of you who hunt with dogs train a dog for that task.

Thanks bud! She's starting to mature into a pretty sweet dog finally. The constant biting and being a jerk was getting really old!

That sounds more like the experiences I've had. Looks like you caught a picture at a good moment, ha!

That sounds like our Rott. He seems to be incapable of preventing himself from grabbing your hand with his mouth. Which isn't a big deal, unless you're a hundred-pound Rottweiler. He is just now starting to grow out of it, after constant corrections, at about 28 months old. He's a stubborn one. And as close to a sidekick as I have right now. I lost my true sidekick in 2013. Got this new one within a month, and though we are great friends, he's not really my sidekick.

I was told early on to make her bite herself by pinching her jaw together every time she bites. I would tell you to try it on your Rott but that might not end well.
I understand your feelings about him not being like your last pup. They're never the same but I bet you mean the world to your Rotty.

Thanks Standard. You're probably close to right about my Rott. We got him for our daughter, but he seems to have imprinted on my wife. I think my wife means the world to him. He tolerates me as the alpha. But that's ok. He is family, and whether he has imprinted on me or my daughter or my wife, he falls under my overwatch, so he's good. 👍

And yeah... That whole bite himself... It works... Sorta. Gotta be careful with Rotty jaws. 😬

I bet it would be a different story if he was a she. They seem to gravitate to the opposite sex from what I've seen. They're great with children though!

I had a red heeler named Rowdy for about 13 years. He definitely took after his name. They're a great breed. I hope to get one for my son when he gets old enough. My dad has a female named Dixie that's about 2-3 now. She's just as hyper as my pup was.

Ahh crap!! I was hoping that this one would mellow out a bit!

Well, supposedly they have the strongest bite of any domestic dog. And I've been on the receiving end of one bite, pretty much by accident. Canine through the back of my hand in a heartbeat! But they're sweethearts.

Man that must've been horrible! Hand wounds are the worst plus dogs that size have huge teeth!

Yeah I grew up with a rott. They are playfull and high energy. Really great dogs in my opinion. His name was bishop.

Cleaned it the best I could, added iodine, but still got an infection. Didn't want to go to the dr. but eventually had to when red streaks started climbing my arm.

haha holy-s! My dog luckily is all bark wussy bite. He gets mouthy only when he is playing but never lunges to bite or anything. He is definitely the wife's sidekick more than mine as well but when she isn't here he puts up with me. Very high energy and very goofy, super loyal and will bark maybe too frequently at any outside noise..
