OT: Whats your favorite SHTF Handgun and why?

As much as I love my HK USP 45 compact I think a glock 17 or 19 makes the most sense. Just more ammo and spare mags floating around to restock.
I am not as good with a handgun as I used to be so higher capacity of the glock could be a big deal.
Someone said once that “a pistol is what you use to fight your way to the rifle you should have had with you to begin with”.

Clint Smith and he has a lot of good and funny sayings. here are a few more

Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he’s gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it’s going to be empty.

If you’re not shootin’, you should be loadin’. If you’re not loadin, you should be movin’, if you’re not movin’, someone’s gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick.

The only purpose of fighting is to Win!

Shoot what’s available, as long as it’s available, until something else becomes available.

When you reload in low light encounters, don’t put your flashlight in your back pocket… If you light yourself up, you’ll look like an angel or the tooth fairy…and you’re gonna be one of ‘em pretty soon.

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.

The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. ‘Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?’ ‘No ma’am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.’

Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!

You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or use any other word you think will work but I’ve found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much the universal language.

Don’t shoot fast, shoot good.

I like pairing my MP5 with the VP9 because they share the same caliber and the MP5 is not as clumbsy as most other rifles so it's like having 2 Pistols but the MP5 still give the versatility of a short rifle...This is the one firearm I've had since the 80's and likely the one to take the trip to Valhalla Super Dependable and Full Auto Fun:cool::D:D:D:D:D:D

I wouldn’t pick a handgun for a shtf gun, but since that’s the question:

plain old glock 17 for me.

I have fancier of course, but when it’s my life on the line I just want it to work without problems. The 17 is super loose but I figure that’s a good thing for reliability in dirty environments, like ak’s

otherwise I’d rather carry a rifle with an optic. Can hunt with that easier too

for a knife I’d probably pick the tgulb

You forgot: A concealed carry pistol is supposed to be comforting, not comfortable.

The philosophy of my road kit is to get my family back home if needed and be highly mobile. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. Neither are my first choice in SHTF scenario and if I was leaving home and really thought something would happen there'd be a 5.56 or .308 thrown in for good measure. As I mentioned in my first post, I have everything I want and need here, and my house is 2x6 construction layered in 3/4 plywood, 3/4 pressboard, heavy expanded steel mesh and 2" of stucco concrete. It was built by a mob boss for his daughter in the late 70's. Yes, we're only 20 minutes from Youngstown :)

DE91E29E-1394-40DF-BB6D-C533F33560AC.jpeg I had a Kimber 1911 once, one of the finest shooting pistols I’ve had the pleasure to own. But that was the pickiest eater and would only shoot the finest ammo with long shoulders.

Now my Springfields have the top spot and all surplus ratchetass ammo they can eat with the money I made off that Kimber.

Some Glock 21 stuff I put together for fun. Heinie Classic fixed sights.

KKM Precision Glock 21 Match 45ACP 6"

Has the supported chamber and never had a jam with it. Good stuff.

Their info:
All KKM barrels are made using certified 416R gun-barrel quality stainless steel bar stock. Our barrels are then heat treated and vacuum tempered to 42 RC. All of our barrels are CNC machined to obtain superior dimensional tolerances over stock. Our advanced proprietary button rifling process allows KKM barrels to offer greater accuracy over stock barrels. Our Glock barrels come with fully supported SAAMI spec match chambers for shooting factory or reloaded ammunition as well as lead or jacketed bullets. Unless noted all barrels are drop-in fit.

Hard to beat a Springfield (or two!), especially at the price point. Mine eat anything they’re fed and beg for more!

yup supported chamber is something I wish glocks came with. I am planning on doing that to my G29 for the higher pressure loads and maybe the G20 as well.

Any noticeable difference in the KKM Barrel? Been eyeing but $160-$295 depending on feature seems steep (to me) unless it can bring groups in significantly.

I told them I was thinking of magna-porting it, and the guy on the phone went nuts. He said it would ruin the accuracy out at 50 yards. I laughed as I usually don't squint at 50 yard targets, but I took his advice.

I'm happy with it, but if you're on a budget, there's a bunch of manufacturers out there that can probably get the job you want done for a little less.

Glock, Glock, Glock ...
Not surprising, but not for me.
I’d like to say one of my 10MMs, but having a gun with no ammo supply is useless.
So, SIG P226 9mm for the win.

The extra weight at the end does help.

It's the perfect place for the weight. Shoots real soft.

The G21 is my favorite glock. I still have my original one from 1992. The slide cracked in 2015 and was replaced. So only the frame remains. That was after about 15,000 rounds of 230 hardball. My G22 had a cracked slide at 23-24,000 rounds. It was a Gen 3. I had an original G19 that is still going. I think the Gen 4 series springs are the best improvement in glocks. Will likely prevent battering to an extreme.
