Other than H2O, What is your favourite drink on the trail?

I've been using the Emergen-C electrolyte drink mixes...not too bad and pretty compact without all the sugar.

Emergen-c makes electrolyte mixes now? I thought it was only a vitamin supplement?

As to the OP, water with NUUN.

Gatorade powder has too much sugar, does not pack well, and has less vitamins and minerals than other dry electrolyte mixes.

Ya'll are going to laugh at me, but I bring a long a single serving mix of Kool-aid. I like drinking something other than water when I'm out and about. Kool-aid only tastes good when the water is cold though.

I bring tea bags with me, but haven't had the opportunity lately to stop and enjoy some.

"Jack Benny's" - Jello mixed with hot water, or Cocoa. In the warm weather, Water, or maybe tea made with wild plants.

I like Gatorade powder, mixed to about 1/3rd strength.

Some Johnnie Walker is also nice for the fireside . . .

Tea, because the water needed to be boiled anyways. If by chance I find some labrador tea growing, I'll brew up a pot of that. I like it better than regular tea, has a nice flavor, and helps settle the stomach. I sometimes make it at home when my gut is upset. The stuff grows everywhere around here in the boreal forest.

Reminds me of a backpacking trip I took with some college buddies back in the day. I had brought along a fifth of some cheap vodka to drink after dark. In an effort to make it more palatable, we added an envelope of some flavor of Kool-Aide. After mixing it up we tried it and that stuff tasted like &*$%@! :barf:

Of course we still drank it all, but it just tasted like &*$%@!

Yeah, Gatorade does have too much sugar and I like the more compact individual packets also. The Emergen-C packets are also good to remove the chlorine or iodine taste if you have purified the water...

I enjoy brewing up a good cup of tea when in the bush. Sometimes I carry a small brick of tea (in the photo), or a pouch of whole leaf teas.

Not to stray off topic, but you're pictures always blow me away. I really like this one, and the one with the work gloves and the kuska.

I was going to say the same thing...it really is a great picture!

What is "labrador tea", is that camomile?

For the morning, I will almost always pack in some coffee (instant or bags) and instant hot cocoa to be consummed together- "Mocha". I can't drink just plain hot chocolate anymore as I find it too sweet, but mixing it in with coffee gives it a really nice boost.

The rest of the day it's water while on the move, and for stops I'll brew up some "Sassumac" that I've foraged. The sumac component is seasonal, so sometimes it's just sassafrass. If you haven't tried the two together, please do yourself the favor- it is awesome!

Water, maybe Gatorade on occasion. Coffee and soda are diuretics: they make you piss thus dehydrating you.

What kind of savage beast doesn't have coffee in the morning? ;)

Tea or coffee on the trail in addition to water, and rum at night as you are digesting your dinner and looking forwards to some Z's
