Our "Front Porch" ....

I'm guessing we have H&K and Benelli fans in here somewhere too :D HK45c and Benelli M4 here. I don't mind paying more for quality. I don't want to buy twice and I don't ever want a failure in life or death situations.

Own and use Both - Never have had a failure. Both great quality. I know some Hk's have made it into the Hinderers and Guns thread.

I agree there is something here that keeps me coming back. It's a respect and recognition of respect. Not respect for me, but in understanding the way things are and are not with life, the world, and Hinderer knives.

Nice lunch Rubi, can't beat spending time with good people who have similar interests!

Very true. I usually just stop in for a sandwich and then back to my day, this was a nice respite.
Remeinded me of Here :)

I thought it was funny (thought of you) when my Lunch Buddy turned out to be the UPS guy.

Own the Benelli M4.....love it!! Had an HK 45 full size and sold it......

My male family line is what I aspire to.....the true meaning of what it is to be a man! I can only hope to be half the man my dad is....he's 85, served in the marines and the air force, served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and has set the bar far higher than I can ever set it for my son. Men were men back in the day and have become less so in today's world....in my opinion. My goal is to recapture the male spirit....to be a testosterone-laden bearer of my family line!! Also in my humble opinion the appreciation of the edged weapon is a visceral reaction that men have that dates back to the days of killing things and dragging them home....an appreciation of those things that make life liveable(and I mean LIVEABLE). I continue to learn and enjoy every post on this forum....and this thread in particular.....as it helps me to further my goal in life!! For this I say thank you......

Many of us are very fortunate to have had or known Great Men (in our lives) especially during our formative years when we really needed them.
I believe one of our greatest challenges as a Civilization is .... are we going to be or become "those Men" for our youngsters that need them in their lives too?
For what I may or may not be, I would not "Be" if it weren't for the many (I was blessed) Great Men that served as role models in my life.
Teaching by just "being" how to be a good Man to a young and watchful boy.
Representatives of the Greatest Generation were present in many of our lives but, sadly they have almost all passed or will in the next precious few years.... then what will we be left with? Answer: Us, at least the "Us" that are old enough to have lived and benefited from Uncles and Dads and Grampas that lived through the Great Depression, WWII, Korea .
The youth of today and the future of our World will be shaped by our Legacy, what We are able to bestow - the repeating of stories and acts of heavy lifting that the Men of our memories did for us.
Will We be up to the task?
Can We get the "not quite so pie eyed" young current versions of Us to look away from their electronics of choice long enough to listen or to care?
As a Dad of Four(4) teenagers ... I am optomistic but not without reservation. Parenting should come Sans rose colored glasses - You need clear fields of view to include the 6 0'clock position in order to hope to stay one step ahead.
These are the types of conversations its nice to have a Front Porch to discuss :)

Great choices! Two of my favorites!:D

Not just in guns, but I've always had a 'Buy once, Cry once' mentality. Only trouble is, I can't seem to settle for only one knife. :o :p

Roger that Map..... and keep on rollin' :) Here is my Lunch story (hope you guys and especially F.O.) appreciate it you will see why I say that in a minute.
I'm at lunch thus the lunch story and the little sandwich shop I eat at is like a lunch shop version of here , mix of regulars and the occassional new face.
The UPS guy walks in (now you know the reference to F.O.) nice guy you can tell by his face. The typical banter starts up with the owner and we sit down adjacent stools and he and I start teasing about the Owner who is a buddy of ours but he and I don't really know each other.
Well, one thing leads to another and we start up a convesation and as I originally thought he is indeed a nice guy. We are sharing stories about this and that and I find out he is a Dad too with Sons about the age of mine. His are going to be Eagle Scouts and He and his 17 year old son are Firemen here locally.
Well, I guess you know what comes next.
I ask him if he likes knives and of course the response is in the affirmative so out comes my XM.
I always enjoy, never tire of the look on the face of a knife lover who has never seen let alone held an XM. Rick/Rob I'm sure you know what you do everyday when you turn on the lights but.... I'm honored every time I get to share "the Story"
So, I start filling in the details of what he is clearly appreciating and then I say, " and guess what? You and your Son actually get to own one of these If you so choose" - a True Honor and recognition of what you do. I explained who Rick and Rob are and that they build these amazing tools for many but especially for those who "need" them.
Great Lunch.
New Friend and possibly (likely) a new Hinderer Fan.
Good Day :)

I get that, I really do. I had the same chance to introduce several young soldiers to Hinderers when I was in the sand. Some didn't get it, their $60 CRKT was just fine for them. But some did, and they understood and appreciated the quality tool they held in their hands. They also knew it was something they could count on when they needed it, even to save their backside, as one of my XM's did for me. I'm pretty sure at least a couple of them that I talked to contacted Rick and ordered their own XM. There's also one instance with a young soldier who couldn't possible afford one himself that I regret not giving him mine. I knew if anyone there needed a good knife it was him, and I hesitated. Then the moment was gone, and it's bothered me ever since.

We touched on the subject of forum regulars here...I'd like to state for the record that I have met many Hinderer owners/users IRL that would fit in nicely. Several post in another area on BF but not often here. It's all good, either way. And I do enjoy when they and new people join the fun.

I was just thinking about "Buy once, cry once" the other day, or as some like to say, a "_____ snob". I just refuse to buy certain brands, if it is justified or not, when it comes to just about everything I buy. I also take very good care of my material possessions, and don't like to throw anything away, so it kind of works out.

Very Nice Chemdawg!!! Love the knife with the USP Compact. LoneWolf, I totally agree. Pay a little more and buy it once... :D

Buy once cry once is a lesson my dad taught me as well. He is a contractor like myself and he taught me that you get what you pay for when it comes to tools. The same applies to knives I've found. I don't mind paying for a quality tool that will last a lifetime.

Agreed. The concept was first introduced to me by my First Sergeant when I was a young Company Commander.
I remember the afternoon like it was yesterday, "Top" was standing in my office and we were just shooting the breeze.
I must have asked him what was up for the weekend and He replied that he was going to buy a Tv ( Brand escapes me but I knew it to be Top of the Line) I said, "Wow, Top that is a Big Bucks Tv"! Top drove a Lincoln and always dressed nice as well.
He simply said, " Sir, I do not make Officer money so, when I buy, I buy Quality not because I can afford to BUT because I can't afford Not To" that was when I understood that buying quality (which costs up front) actually saves in the long run. It ain't about impressing people though many do it for that reason - it's about Quality costs BUT Quality Lasts.
It's like I always say, "Do the Right thing for the Right reasons and let the rest work its self out"
BooYah! and Cheers to Master Sergeant ( First Sergeant Duncan "Top") where ever you are - We both taught each other a few things about Life.

This conversation reminds me of a quote Bo Randall of Randall Made Knives used coined by John Ruskin “Quality. There is hardly anything in the world that some men cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man’s lawful prey.

Pretty well sums it up for me.

I (unfortunately) Deal with it - Everyday. People these days (many not all) want something for nothing, they want what they are "entitled" to and that usually is for FREE.
Those willing to pay do so begrudgingly and with the goal being to get Champagne for a beer price.
Been in the business world for 27 years and will say it has changed and more dramatically then ever in the last 6 years or so.

ONE of the reasons I admire RHK so much is the obvious committment to ALL that is right - Product, service, the customer, responsiveness, and overall perfection of design and purpose.
Thay have a LOT to be Proud of.

Everyone just visiting for the lottery should drop in here and sign the virtual guest book. Welcome!

Somewhat dissapointed...please see my above welcome.

And all those registered (blue) users clouding up the lottery stuff need to read the the title of that thread and the first post.
