Our "Front Porch" ....

That is a "Mountain" Wow! Beautiful pic W&S, and yes those were the "days" a different time in many ways.
Cars ran on Leaded Gas and could turn the rear tires into smoking melted rings of liquid rubber after a trip to the grocery store. The internet, computers, face book, twitter, cell phones, fax machines, air bags, and video games were yet to be contemplated (Hmmmm, nevermind)
Glad to have lived through those days and for the most part remember some of them ;)

Hard to believe how this world has changed! Here I am typing on a little pocket computer in Helsinki and in college I was typing papers on a typewriter and calling my girlfriend from a pay phone with a roll of quarters...

Yes.....change for sure. Kind of brings us full circle back to the genesis of the thread - the Front Porch.
Used to be the catalyst for getting to know ones neighbors and fostering/maintaining friendships.... now the front porch is
here.
I didn't have any XM's or Hinderer pens back then so, now ain't too bad :)

Fresh snow last night, a balmy 9* (actually feels warm after -4)
Little stream that runs the back of my property, attracts everything from little rabbits to coyote and deer, red and gray fox.

Good people here, glad I found the forum.

It seems that not too long ago that, we drank water out of the garden hose, hung laundry, stood on a the front seat with out a seat belt, station wagons were cool for family trips, left messages with a friend's family if they weren't home, made sure to introduce all of your friends to your parents, played head or gut w/ grandpa, the only two pairs of jeans were wranglers & levis, gas was .75/gal, a firm handshake and eye contact meant something, had a teacher that will smack you if you get out of hand, musicians were actually writing their own music, Red Dawn & Top Gun were the movies to see....lol we've come a long way

Playing in a garden hose, hah! I remember that as a kid. It's things like these which excite me about our planned out-of-state move this year. Our kids can't play on the lawn or in the hose—we live in a 2nd story apartment building. Lord willing that will change. Some things can still be salvaged.

Prayers and good thoughts your (and your Familys) way Robert

Great aspirations you have for your Family wanting to share those simple pleasures and "making a memory" each time with the most amazing little things; a campfire night, game of flashlight tag on a summer evening, and yes.....running through the sprinkler :)

No parks, playgrounds or recreation areas? When as a youth and in a similar situation my mother would take me on walks and bicycling adventurers that I later did as I aged and made neighborhood friends. Also, as a family we'd drive places on the weekends just to get fresh air and live outside a bit. Kites, frisbee, catch, etc.

Reminds me of summertime at one of my grandparent's homes. Often visited in summer when school was out and water hoses, pools, neighborhood kids you only saw once a year...all pretty fond memories.

Rubi, love the snow-cover ground with the natural animal trough!

But that's more of a back porch, no? :D

Yes! Punxsutawney "Phil" (aka Large Fat Rat) Has indeed said Winter is soon to be over and an Early Spring is Coming!! Yes! Thank You Phil

As soon as I took this one out of the box, I decided it was my new EDC. Now I know for sure that it's here to stay, it bit me tonight. Not much more than a nip, maybe 3 drops of blood, but enough to count. It drew my blood, so now it's mine.

L.W. - I hear ya & I've only got one XM. Went thru the "lets get some blood outta this guy" from the voice of mine without much of a waste of time. Kinda joined us at the hip so t' speak. :D

Owwwwwww, damn! All I got was a 1/4" slit in the side of my thumb. Just enough to get a few drops onto a napkin. Not even worth pointing a camera at.

I was really an idiot that day. Was trying to get a piece of plastic out of my snow thrower gas tank. Tried chopsticks (Why? I dunno, I suck with chopsticks) So.....
I figured, split one chopstick and make like a pair of tweezers out of it So......
I stood it on ens, firmly grasped it with my Left hand (wouldn't want it to slip ya know) and deployed my trusty (Very sharp) XM So....
I positioned the blade where I wanted the split and proceeded to push Hard and it slipped Wham!! directly down with considerable force right into my Left index finger  Jeezus did I let out a scream Man did that hurt! I have cut myself a couple times but never felt anything like that, didn't know I had hit a splintered a couple pieces of bone.
Wrapped it up best I could and went and snow throwed the driveway.
So anyway.
Be Careful! I love me a sharp XM and that will never change. Just glad I still have my finger (attached)
