out in the woods today, building shelters, testing blades and look wtf happened!!!!!

WTF indeed. Failure on impact tools makes it dangerous for you or anyone around you. Glad to see no one got hurt.
That aside, looks like everyone had a good time, and that's what really matters. Tools may fail, but good memories are for life

Looks like a great day, aside from the break. I've never personally seen that myself, and I hope I never do.

Good to see some of our youth of today still enjoying the woods. I know I try to get my younger nephew out with me whenever I can. (The older ones are into video games, not much woods time going to be had :( )

mad dog (my 5 y/o girl)
Love it:thumbup::D
I like the variety in your tools, too.

That's unfortunate about your hawk.
"Cast" is a generic term that can apply to a variety of materials and processes, but it generally has a pretty negative connotation for me when it comes to dynamically loaded tools.

Yes mad dog loves to be out in the woods playing around. she has a good time as long as she has some snacks and isn't freezing :)

jv3 I'm really digging the parang for as inexpensive as it is you can't beat it.

That head was cracked at some point. Not all the way through but you can see rust spots in a couple places along the break. That would weaken that point along the head causing the failure.
Oh hey very nice to see the youngster out with you.keep giving her the best experience ever

Sad about the hawk-in those kinds of temps it's a real gamble chopping with anything but an axe, especially in midwest hardwoods. You sir have a good taste in cutlery. Nice collection of practical users.

Sorry about the hawk, but awesome pics other wise. Love the pic of you and your little girl warming her hands!

that is my hippy brother with her in that pic. I'm the fatter one lol :) and thanks everyone for the comments.

PayetteRucker. thanks we don't discriminate on any blades lol. we like em cheap to expensive but whether they are expensive or cheap they will be used.

updated updated. contact made about warranty

Ok so I got ahold of devin "2hawks" price today at 0820. said hey I'm so and so I have left you a few messages and sent you a couple emails and he said "ok", like he hadn't got any of them. I explained the situation about the broken hawk and he said I'm very sorry we will get you a new one. no questions asked, nothing about returning the old one, so that is nice he is standing behind his product. as a heads up to everyone he told me straight up. something must have been wrong with this batch of steel because I have only had one hawk break in 7 years and in the past couple months I have had 5-7 hawks break. I told him that doesn't make me confident in his product. he said he would be testing all hawks once they come in (come in???) so I asked him how long it would take him to get me a replacement and he said he isn't sure? it all depends on how long it takes him to get his steel in. I said please let me know because if it's going to be to long I would prefer a refund. he asked for my number and said he would keep me updated. so not a bad process for the warranty. Now for the debate of whether they are forged or cast! A lot of folks on a couple local forums who have bought these hawks at the guns shows were all told they are forged hawks. My brother and I specifically asked that before we bought them and he told us yes they are forged hawks, we do it all in shop. I'm not sure how much of a difference there is in cast and forge as far as strength goes but I have always been under the impression forged is tougher.

I told him it looked liked like the hawks were cast not forged and he ignored the question. So I specifically asked him again are these hawks forged? he said yes we do all grinding, sharpening ect.. in the shop(that isn't what I asked though). so once he finished up with that information. I asked him again are you hawks cast or forged. He kinda of acted like he didn't hear the question and just went on with the conversation asking me for my information and telling me about the recent spree in broken hawks. I wanted to push this issue a lot more to hear him say yes they are cast or no they are forged(like a lot of people have been told at the shows) but I also want to make sure I get my situation taken care of. so after I either get my new hawk or my refund then I'll just ask and not let him beat around the bush with the answer

What he said about the earlier cracks.--KV

Thanks for the update Grunt Soldier. I'm sure he will take care of you as he has everyone else who had problems with his products in the past.

As far as them being cast I think a search in the hawk forum will proove they are as he took over the molds from Bob Thalman who posted under the 2Hawks screen name here before his passing.

Hey man, that sucks about your hawk. I remember being told by him at a recent show that they were forged in shop as well. We need to meet up sometime and have a hike/camp with the kids.

[Bnow on to the wtf part. so I am using my 2 hawks war beast to chop some very seasoned hard wood. the final hit and the wood breaks off and I hear this strange sound. I look down and this is what I see

You should have used the right tool for the...oh wait...I mean, what do you expect when chopping wood with a...damn...
It's hard to come up with a snide remark for this one.:D

This one is headed to grunt soldier tomorrow. Bet you won`t break (or lose) this one!

How did that Fiskars work for you? I've always wondered how they chopped, never had one.
