out in the woods today, building shelters, testing blades and look wtf happened!!!!!

How did that Fiskars work for you? I've always wondered how they chopped, never had one.

I got that on sale from TSC for 15 dollars and for the money it's one hell of a tool. it will go through green stuff like it's not there. and it does a pretty solid job on hard woods. the handle is actually very comfortable. I'm actually quite impressed with it

I thought it was leaf debris, but the OP would know. Rust would indicate preliminary failure, but that would be a strange pattern of cracks.

You said that this was not such a big deal because it wasn't a survival situation, but it very well could have been. Really glad that thing didn't hurt anyone. Now that I've seen this I'm taking this hawk and the little double bit hatchet that he'll be coming out with off the list. I've never had a hatchet or hawk fail like this.

Great thread, very objective and informative. GS that looked like an awesome time spent with your little one. I'm glad no one was injured and good luck on your quest for a new hawk and a straight answer.

I was going to order one of those 2hawks axes until I did a bit of research and found out they are all cast. Way too expensive for a cast head IMHO. Chris

I bought one a few years back because there was a buzz about them and was totally unimpressed. They are cast just like the ones that Ragnar sells but about 3 times as expensive.

Also the edge on mine was total crap. Way too thick to be a decent chopper and almost no good sharpening from the maker. I think I still have mine upstairs somewhere.

I did a review on it at Ramanon years ago I dug up.

lol wow wish I would have seen this before. I guess I'm just going to ask for a refund. his edges are better now but not a ton lol.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the 2hawks site used to say the heads were cast, but now it no longer does, as far as I can tell. It doesn't say they are forged anywhere either. I also don't like his evasiveness when pressed about the topic either as reported by G.S. FWIW a refund is what I would choose.

I agree sir and it bothers me too. what else is bothering me is that it has been 7 days and he hasn't gotten back to me to let me know where were at. I know that isn't to long but I'm sure he has spoken to who he needs to and could have gotten back to me by now or at least said I'm still waiting to hear back from so and so.

and apparently it's not so common knowledge that they are cast. here is the pathfinder scout hawk with dave saying at least 2 times that is hand forged here in the usa. Maybe I am misunderstanding that term but I don't think so

latest update... warranty info...

LATEST UPDATE****

well I called devin again this morning (been a week figured I should have heard something) and he didn't answer. he did call me back a hour later and we spoke. he said that he is changing up a lot of things in the business now and that he is getting a new steel supplier and even redoing his designs a bit. he was very apologetic today about the broken hawk and said he felt bad that it failed. he said with the changes and what not it would probably be 3-5 weeks before he could get me a knew one and asked me what I wanted to do. I said that is going to be a bit to much time for me to wait for a replacement and I would take the refund. he took my address and other information and was still apologizing and telling me how he felt bad. I said no worries every business/operation will have problems it's all about how you handle those. I told him I couldn't wait that long because I have a couple camping trips coming up and I want to take out a solid hawk with me to use. he said ok well I will get your refund in the mail today and to make sure you have a solid hawk with you on the trip I will send you for one of my new double bit hawks free of charge as a way to take care of this situation. I am satisfied with the way this is being handled and hopefully the little double bit will hold up like all the other hawks guys have been using hard.

well it showed up today. refund was in cash (which I like lol) and the 2 bit hawk is pretty nice. chops pretty dang good for a little guy. I didn't get to get out yet in the woods but I took it out to some firewood. it would make a hell of a pack hatchet or bob tool. now on to the bad I have noticed already. some of you may think I'm being overly critical since he threw it in for free as a bonus since the other broke but I feel a honest review is always best.

he threw in a nice leather sheath. one of the snaps on the inside isn't flat and actually sticks out making it very hard to put the hawk in and actually scratching the blade. also on the bottom of it the leather is splitting. pics to follow of it all. none of this is a huge deal but if I had paid for this stuff I wouldn't be happy at all. not so sure if this is a issue or not but it's never happened on any of my wetterlings or gransfors. as I chopped with it the head actually started moving off the handle. not a ton but a 1/4 of a inch or so and it made me nervous that it might come off completely. I continued chopping and it didn't seem to move much more but still makes me nervous.

not a good picture but you can see the back of the snap protruding and what not

and of the head moving up on the handle. and a picture of the handle so you can see how much it moved

I do like this design and hawk. it's a great little tool and will be very useful in the woods , on the farm, or in the trunk of a vehicle. I'm not sure what these little guys cost so I can't say much on that. and who knows maybe he threw in the sheath he did because he gave it to me free but if buying in person definitely inspect it as they cost more. all in all I'm happy with the end results and the warranty wasn't difficult at all.

Is the wedge metal? Seems to me that that's the problem. Normally with wood you can reset the wedge and then put a metal one diagonally to take up any more space. Not much of an option with a big metal one in there like that.

it appears to be a metal wedge. I was reading gransfors page on how to do it and they said the same thing. wooden one then diagonal w/ a metal one. guess I'll soak it in some water and see if that works to help it swell

I like that little double bit, looks like the eye has no taper at the top, it should be flaring out so the wood can open up more and lock it in. This is the issue people had with their little marbles double bits.

No taper can be remedied by pinning the handle. Folks with the Marbles double-bits were doing that with success.

**********Another Update folks wow*****************

So a forum member from a local forum, madbomber told me devin 2hawks and him were speaking at the indy 1500 gun and knife show. mad mentioned my problem. devin asked if he knew me, and could he get me a msg to see him at the 1500 because he had lost my contact information. though I didn't think he would need it since he refunded me my money and send me a free 2 bit. either way I stopped by this afternoon and talked to him. he explained that he had his supplier check his steel and they had sent out a bad batch that had way to much of something in it. He continued to apologize and tell me how bad he felt that his hawk had failed me. I told him things happen its all in how you handle those bad situations. he said I agree and that he wanted me to have the hawk I initially bought and wanted. so he gave me another free hawk. the warbeast. so at this time in he has now given me a refund for the orginal hawk, sent me one of his brand new 2bit hawks, and now given me a new warbest and sheath set up. that is some pretty damn good customer service if you ask me

All companies have lemons or a product that doesn't work like it's suppose to. it's all in how the company fixes that problem imo. so the 25 year warranty is from 2hawks is top notch. if you have one of their hawks don't hesitate to use the hell out of it because they do back up their products.

Sounds like you gave an honest review in every direction here. Its always good to have a businessman take care of the problems to satisty their customers. A refund would have sufficed but the other items were over the top. He is probably all to aware of the injuries that product could possibly have inflicted when it failed and also aware of the power of the pen (or in this case the internet) on his companies reputation in the cutlery/tool community. Glad it all worked out and that you let us know about it.

Glad to see this was resolved & that no one got hurt from the break. Things can & do happen & it is EXACTLY what you said. It is how the company handles such issues that make or break future business & repeat customers. I fell the company went wayyy above & wayyy beyond. Good for them. I am sure he made more customers just from the way he handled this.
