This puppy served me many years - waxed cotton - awesome for waterproofness but can get hot and sticky in the heat

I wasn't always so fashionable - here is an awkward shot of my adolescence...

I should have known better. In fact I did know better, though my taste in beer needed improvement...Guns, beer and hats - man I really did get off to a proper start didn't I?

P.S. I'd try a felt hat myself if I didn't already know I'd look like Walter Huston in "Treasure of the Sierra Madre". Heh heh heh.

I needed something durable and cool to help keep the sun off my head here in TX. I've been using various other types of headgear, but all of them were just a compromise. I'm looking forward to getting it!

Here's the natural hemp, "desert version" of the Tilley TH4 that I ordered a couple days ago.

Can't wait to get it. Beats the T3 I wore out years ago. Hemp rather than cotton. Bigger brim. Better shaping. Doesn't look nerdy at all .

I wear a similar looking hat when fishing/hiking. That hemp hat does look good.:thumbup:

Here is "no name" wide brimmed, high ventilation hat. Works, but doesn't fit in the Mid-western Style of Outdoor Couture.

What I wear is boonie walking woods, peaked baseball cap hunting pheasants (weather permitting).

Well, I settled on the Jaxon crushable wool Aussie in tawny. It's half-price at Village Hat Shop right now.

I'll be sure and post pics of it once I get it sometime next week.
