Overkill...

I'd say 4 is too many. There is a fine line between 3 and 4 which is called overkill.

Normally around work I carry a med-large size folder and a Leatherman. That covers off everything I've needed a knife for since ever. On off times, I might supplement with either a credit card knife or a small neck knife, but that only gets me to 3 knives. I might also drop my folder and carry a small fixed blade IWB, but that is the exception.

So - 2 is good, 3 is passable, 4 is strange guy in a knife shop carrying waaaaayyy too many knives, 5 will get your pants to fall down.

I carry a folder and a Leatherman

Some years ago, my co-workers wanted to know how many knives I could carry. I managed 7 without feeling uncomfortable (well, physically)

I carry many. To name a few, I carry around a straight razor or two, a few boot knives, some gloves with knife blades, concealed knives in my concealed shoulder pockets, various scalpels and sæxes, some combat knives, and some OTF switchblades. (That's only a few!) I also carry around some guns like .50 Desert Eagles and various shotguns.

Gecko45? Is that you? Can you tell me where I can find those sweet gloves with knife blades?

Do you carry your .50 Desert Eagles IWB?

i think the important thing is not how many knives you carry, or where, or what kind they are, but instead that you carry the same ones every day, in the same place.

I agree whole heartedly, but I fail to practice that sometimes. I nearly always have the same knives in the same places, but sometimes I will switch up the main rh pocket between knives just because I like more than one knife, and also sometimes one knife fits my proposed activities better than my normal one. All that being said, I am very proficient in deployment and use of any of the several knives I might switch out for carry. Not the best method to be sure, but.....I just can't help myself lol. Soooo many knives so little time to enjoy them all.

I wear a suit everyday so I carry one slip joint or gents folder in my right front pocket, during the week. I also keep a fixed blade in my briefcase.

In the evening and on weekends the fixed blade is on my belt, whenever it is appropriate, with the folder still in my right front pocket.

Minority member signing in. I confess I only carry one knife at a time!!!!!!

Shame shame shame on me ;)

Went to a local knife shop and met a nice chap and struck up a conversation with him. He was serious collector. He pulled 3 different folders from different pockets and then pulled out his wallet and took out a credit card knife and these were all his EDC. Is 4 knives overkill for edc?

To each His/Her own.... but I carry ONE. Generally a SAK, Buck 112, or my Leathermarn "Wave" depending on what I'm doing that day. For ME..... it would be overkill to carry more than one at a time.

I only carry one at a time (how many can you use at once???). I rotate but because I work in an office I tend to carry my smaller knives - a 30 year old Ka-Bar peanut, a CA legal auto, some real old slipjoints I had as a kid or a Buck 501. Around the house it is usually my Buck stockman as my "work" knife. The bigger ones are usually for hunting.

I got a really small SAK and a Jester on my key chain. I keep a LM Wave in my bag and I keep one folder on me at a time. Sometimes I keep another folder in my bag. The Jester's new so it hasn't seen much use. I use the SAK's scissors semi often. I use the Wave and my folder of the day regularly. I do think more than 2 in your pockets at a time is overkill in terms of tools, but not necessarily in terms of satiety. To each his/her own.

Well, I don't work in an office environment. My job is building maintenance, which often involves construction, demolition or renovation tasks. Some of the tasks I face regularly will take the edge off an S30V blade in a couple of hours, some have dulled a knife in minutes. I don't have time to resharpen a knife several times a day just to get a job done. One particular day of demolition/renovation left me with eight very dull blades to sharpen when I got home.

So, yeah, I carry a bunch of knives. No, I don't use just one of them. Self defense is not even a consideration in what I carry. My criteria are based on blade shape for particular tasks, ergonomics, and edge retention. You will be more likely to catch me with a dozen knives on me than just one. If you think that's crazy, stupid or both, too bad.
If all I had to do was open a few envelopes or an occasional package, I might get by with one or two. Try peeling up a five foot square of 1/4" wafer board that has been glued, nailed and screwed down sometime, and see how your EDC fairs. :D

Usually 2 sometimes 3. Lately I scored a Subcom and that is just too easy to keep handy and a large Sebenza. I often carry a Schrade Old Timer Stockman as a 3rd.

The Buck Hartsook necker is one that I am also fond of so now there's 4. Does the blade on my multi tool make 5?
