Overkill...

Same three knives everyday for the last 3 years: LM Wave (original) in horizontal sheath, 5 o'clock. Mnandi in WH sheath in RF pocket. Vic Manager (original 6 tool 2.25" model) in watch pocket with tiny fob for instant access. Wave is for most medium/heavy utility chores (box opening, strap cutting, general multi-tool uses). Mnandi for food duties, "gentleman" duties and conversation piece. Manager for delicate/paper, toothpick, tweezer and mini-tool duties.

I originally carried the Mnandi by its clip, but found that the clip was wearing out some of my more delicate (read expensive) pants. The WH clipcase has cut down on that since the case stays on all day. The Wave started out around 2 o'clock, but moved back after a year or so.

I carry a SAK Tinker, a CRKT Peck for a monry clip, for those rare times when I have some, a Benchmade Auto and, for when things really do hit the fan, a Combat Commander.

I'm finally making am EDC, kind of a slim gents knife. The pronlem with making one is that I'll get attached to it and then someone wants to buy it.

Went to a local knife shop and met a nice chap and struck up a conversation with him. He was serious collector. He pulled 3 different folders from different pockets and then pulled out his wallet and took out a credit card knife and these were all his EDC. Is 4 knives overkill for edc?

Yes...........

i think the important thing is not how many knives you carry, or where, or what kind they are, but instead that you carry the same ones every day, in the same place.

Agreed - I tend to carry the same ones for the most part every day and yes, 4 or more is pretty well normal for me. I also carry my larger folders in my Maxpedition. The number will also vary if a acquire a new one (or two or three.........). I like to have my regulars there in case the new one doesn't cut it (no pun intended:D ) My "regulars" tend to be a Delica 4/PE, D4 SE, Mini-Grip, small SAK and a Ka-Bar/Dozier and a Dragonfly. Each has a specific use. Today, I also have a very recently acquired Caly3 plus a G-10 Meadowlark and the Ka-Bar stayed home. My Fatboy usually has a Rescue 93mm, my SERE 2K and a Becker Necker. A BM710D2 has been known to sneak in there the odd time along with others:) When I get a new one, I like to see how it stacks up to my regulars. Even when I'm "suited up", I have at least two - a small SAK and another folder. Like many, I have a lot of production folders and being able to use them is a nice justisfication for buying more:D Overkill - maybe. For me, no.

This question is for the guys/gals who carry more than 3 blades in their pockets at a time. Are there folders (Manix, Skirmish, Rukus, Maxx) that are too big to pocket carry? Just wondering. I personally have no problem carrying my Large manix in my pocket (it is currently in my rotation).

I carry two everyday, always a sog powergrip multitool, and I rotate my pocketknife, here lately its been a Strider Sng, or a halo III.

The minimalist in me forces me to carry only one knife: usually a Spyderco Military clipped to my right hand pocket, or IWB if at home. My minimalist tendencies can be circumnavigated whenever I get a new slipjoint pattern, though...that goes right into the watch pocket, no questions asked. :)

I carry many. To name a few, I carry around a straight razor or two, a few boot knives, some gloves with knife blades, concealed knives in my concealed shoulder pockets, various scalpels and sæxes, some combat knives, and some OTF switchblades. (That's only a few!) I also carry around some guns like .50 Desert Eagles and various shotguns.

your 13 and you carry a desert eagle???? B.S. kid.. you have been playing too much SOCOM on your Play Station.

I have to resist that tempatation to carry a ton of knives. Right now I'm trying to limit myself to one "tactical" folder and a slipjoint. But I have a little teeny SAK on my keychain so I guess I technically carry 3 knives all the time. I'm thinking about setting up a "slipjoint of the day" rotation, and carrying a different Case every day of the week. But it's so fun to sit at my desk and fiddle with my knives while I work- I usually have 3 or 4 different knives in my briefcase on top of the 3 on my person. Plus a leatherman. And usually one knife or the other finds its way into one of my coat pockets. Nothing terribly scary (besides my Manix, which isn't really all that scary)- just slipjoints or SAKs. They're like pocket jewelry.

It doesn't have anything to do with SD or really needing all of those knives, it has to do with having my toys with me- sort of like a kid who has to have ten different stuffed animals with him before he'll get in the car. I have a lot of knives that I enjoy having around, so naturally I end up carrying a lot with me. I totally understand the guy who EDC's 4 knives, but I can see why some people might think it's weird. That's why I never pull out all of my knives at once in front of people.

That's me too. I carry a Leatherman Micra on my keychain, a Queen Doctor's knife with MOP scales and a SAK at work. Different tools for different jobs, and the Doctor's knife is just because I like having it with me.

3........Leatherman Charge Ti, Emerson Commander and rotate a Boker Subcom or Spyderco Native everyday.

For the past month, I have been carrying a Cold Steel AK-47 in my right pocket, a Spyderco Native in my left pocket, a Cold Steel Safe Keeper III (their older single edge push knife) on my belt at 5 o'clock, and a Ka-Bar TDI Law Enforcement knife in an ankle rig (when I wear boots.) Sometimes I also wear a Spyderco SWICK as a neck knife... I guess I carry a lot! :)

PS I also have a Leatherman Wave and a SAK (sorry, I don't remember its name, but it's got the large locking blade and no corkscrew) in my survival kit in my car! :D

For me, in EDC, which means 2-3 hours commuting and 8-10 hours in an office, this is what I carry. Of course I have a lot more in my truck. I started out carrying a slip joint, Case Boker or 2 bladed SAK. I have since added a leatherman squirt. And now, my Russell Featherlite has been added.

As long as each one is purpose driven, its not overkill.

On the weekends, or on vaca (usually at a farm), the Featherlite is often replaced with a BK11 or a Russell Woods Walker, and a Letherman is added.

1 Neck knife, 1 Benchmade, 1 slipjoint, 1 leatherman. Damn, I guess I carry four too. I do feel kinda silly. But, I HAVE to carry them all. Different reasons, the slipjoint, because it was my grandfathers, etc....

I carry one, that is enough for me, I mean would you really use more then one anyway. Also if ever searched by anyone it looks bad when you are carrying around a armoury of knives with you, especially if they are all tactical type knives. I have two knives, SAK soldier and a Kershaw MiniCyclone, but I only carry one or the other at all times.

I used to carry as many as 3 at a time. Now it's just 1, usually a SAK that has 2 blades plus other tools.

Generally, I carry 3 knives- an SAK (Spartan), Stockman, tactical folder. Of late, I have been finding this Leatherman PST in my jacket pocket. Guess that makes four. Sometimes as little as one, usually at least two. I wouldn't say 4 is too many. Better to use them than leave them in some box somewhere.

This is going to make me sound like a real nob but who cares What is EDC i know its got something to do with defense? maybe anyway i carry a small custom edge and a credit card blade in my wallet
