Para 2 Sprint - Foliage Green w/ Elmax

As a Spyderco newbie, I'm happy to have this thread to become better informed. Thanks. I want to get more PM2s and now I'm just about ready for starting with the Military, and also want the upcoming Rubicon.
Try starting with a Military Cruwear. I really like the steel and you can still find them for a somewhat reasonable price. The steel is really tough and it holds and edge well. The Gray Military makes a great user and this would be my steel of choice for an outdoor user on the Military platform.I would classify Cruwear as semi-stainless from my experiences.I think it's worth your consideration if you are thinking about a Military.

There are no bad choices in the Military line. If I had to choose one Spyderco knife, it would be the Military.

Prior to joining BF.com, all I ever heard were rave ups on Para 2s. Here, I've heard so much love and respect for the Millies, coupled with how much I love the Para 2s, that if some of you don't mind, please tell me why. I thank you for having mercy and patience with a Spyderco Tenderfoot.

Look around the Spyderco sub-forum a little bit, you'll find several topics on the Millie. Don't wanna de-rail this post.

I have 12 mill's. The para2 feels stubby in use compared to the millitary IMHO.

If you start a thread with your questions I am sure you will find some answers and then some...The people who post on the Spyderco forum have a boatload of knowledge and are fine folks also.
Best of luck

There's no black and white answer here. Talking about $150 204P Para2s is pointless if you can't buy one for that price, and Sal Glesser recently posted in another thread that there aren't going to be any more Para2 sprints or exclusives, although he didn't say that there weren't some existing contracts in the works. Even the $190 blue M390 is on some kind of indefinite backorder due to production backlogs

Demand for Colorado models is so high that Spyderco just doesn't have the capacity to throw in a few sprint runs here and there. And I agree that $150 for the 204P model is not representative because that was probably too cheap. A lot of those ended up in the hands of users and collectors so that pushed the price down, but I think all of them would have sold at $200 so that is a better comparison. Now the question is whether an Elmax version is worth the same as a 204P version, plus some people might not like the color. OTOH it is still cheaper than any other non-S30V MP2 that you can buy right now.

BBS has some strange policies and they should be criticized for them in comparison to some of the other good dealers that we have, but if I wanted the knife I would buy it.

Value is directly related to how scarce an item is. There were 1200(or more)204p Para2's made. Theirs been 2 runs of the Blue M390 Para2 made with a third on the way and they still sell for big money, even used. I don't know the total number of Elmax Para2's made but I think its 600 or less.

So who's to say they wont release a 2nd and 3rd run like the M390 PM2 or the 2nd run like on the CTS-204P PM2. We all know just because it is listed or marked for only 600 pcs., that doesn't mean that it is written in stone! :)

If you want a sprint run PM2, then I guess this Elmax one is the one to get as it is the only one out there! My question is that is the price tag of $200 make it a good deal based on strictly the steel used? I am not looking at the idea that I have to have it cause it is a sprint run so $200 is okay but strictly as it is a $200 PM2 with Elmax steel and it that enough to make it a good deal! :)

I would say, if you want Elmax steel and you reeealllly like the ergonomics and lock of the PM2, go for it.
Otherwise, you're getting into ZT territory, as well as a lot of other premium production knives (add another $20 and you're looking at a Microtech in Elmax).
So it kinda really all depends on how much you're in love with the PM2.

A good summary.

:love_heart::love_heart::love_heart::love_heart::love_heart:That much.:)

I really liked the original Para. When Spyderco proudly displayed the updated Para2, I thought it was at best a lot of hype and passed. I bought one of the S90V sprints when it came along, just because of the blade steel. It didn't take long to realize that they had really improved the knife in just about every way.

If you want an Elmax blade, and you love the PM2, buy it. I wanted S90V on a 4" Military, so I bought it. Was it overpriced? Yes. Is Bento Box Shop kinda shady? I think so. But, I wasn't planning to make my money back on it. I use it almost everyday, and love it. If that's the only place you can get exactly what you want, I say go for it.

If you're a collector trying to get every different para2 on the market, I don't have advice for you, because I don't understand that. I'm not a collector. I'm not saying it's wrong at all, it's just something I'm not into, and something I don't understand... especially people trying to get the CTS-XHP or M390 at the ridiculous secondary market prices... just to sit in a box. I hope this isn't another model that ends up this way.

Edit: This should clear it up for a lot of people, lol. bentoboxshop@yahoo.com

I used to sell high end watches and was very passionate about all things mechanical. I understood the motivation of the collectors, but it drove me crazy(envious?) knowing that they would be "safe queens." I'm less a collector and more into finding a knife that I really like and use, and now I'm gleefully exploring the different steels. I also like having something more limited(Sprint). I looked hard at a sprint orange PM2 just sold here, but as you all educate me, I've become a little more selective. Besides, there's the Millie and the Rubicon to save up my pennies for.

Yes but Spyderco won't manufacture them anytime soon. And if the first run doesn't sell out very fast at $200, they will think twice about ordering more.

Country knives in inter course, PA just let me know that they had received their Elmax PM2s and they will be selling for $300 plus $11 shipping. If you want one, now is the time to order from BBS...it will save you a $100

So what other stores might get them? Anyone know?
