Paramilitary 3 PM3!!! official pics and release date

the handle is again much longer than the blade :(

improves grip for heavy tasks but not pleasing to aesthetics

I'll be buying one. Or seven. The somewhat smaller profile will be nice for EDC. I'll definitely add a deep clip, and agree with some others that a wire clip would have been nice. Mr. Sal no doubt has his reasons for the standard clip, not the least of which is that its more sturdy for a knife that may see a little more aggressive usage than the standard EDC knife.

And I just saw the Police 4, which I had no idea existed. But that's for another thread.

It's a smaller version of the PM2, so it should be smaller. But based on the picture, the blade to handle ratio is actually worse so the blade is actually shorter on the PM3 than if a PM2 had been proportionally scaled down.

Well, you can't see where the handle ends exactly in that picture. But using a conservative estimate of the end, the blade to handle ratio is actually worse on this knife than the PM2. The blade is about 5% smaller in relation to the handle than the PM2 blade from my approximate measurements.

Also not sure what's wrong with the stop pin? Would it be better if it was a screw? Would it be better if there were no screws? Should Spyderco start making art knives that are only looked at and never dip such mundane tasks as cutting?

Too small for me but I'm sure plenty will like it.

For the weight difference I'll stick with the PM2 but this is great for places with a 3" blade limit

PM2 blade to handle ratio: 3.42/4.82 = 0.7095, or around 71%
Para 3 blade to handle ratio: 3.00/4.27 = 0.7026, or around 70%

The ratio is technically worse, but most of the difference seems to be a matter of aesthetics. I doubt most users will notice a difference of less than 1% while using it.

I really don't get the whole disdain over Blade to handle ratio.
This is going to sound like I'm being insulting, but it's not the intent. Just my opinion.

You want (need) a shorter blade.
You want a comfortable handle while using the knife.
You will wind up with what is considered "poor" blade to handle ratio (unless you have munchkin hands).

Sal designs his blades to be users.
Not as pocket jewelry to hold in an open palm and take pictures that you can post on Instagram as "today's daily carry".

When you are holding the handle and actually cutting something with the blade I doubt the ratio is noticed. Because the handle is covered by your hand.

The main reason the PM2 is so popular is how well it fits in hand.

And lets be honest, one of the LAST things Spyderco is known for, is making a pretty Knife.

look at mini griptilians..they have perfect handle to blade ratio and doesnt decrease functionality

why cant spyderco do the same?

Zt and kershaw have dozens of knives with good handle to blade ratios as well i just got 2 zts with almost perfect handle to blade ratios. O450 and 0808

Legal issues aside, for a given handle length, a longer blade can have advantages over a shorter blade, most often, for many tasks like cutting cardboard, ropes, and the thing I dont want to go to, which is self defense. Yes sure - for opening envelopes it does not matter. So, I guess I get a bit problem of claiming "we want/need a shorter blade."

I've never understood the blade-to-handle ratio problem. Maybe because I like swords?

I'd prefer a longer grip on most of my small knives.

Everybody is different. I own a bunch of knives by both Spyderco and Benchmade, including a couple of mini-Grips. Great knives, BTW. But for me, the Delica 4 (for example) fits my hand a bit better and is more comfortable during use than my mini-Grips, and I don't even have large hands. It also carries nicer in the pocket than the mini-Grip. I've personally never seen the blade-to-handle ratio of the medium-to-smaller Spydercos as a problem, but as a functional advantage.

Of course, as always, YMMV. That's why being a knife lover is great nowadays, because we have so many different options to suit different tastes. So nobody is forced to conform to only a small number of choices regarding aesthetics function, grip and carry comfort, etc.

Considering the low proportion of lefties, the current hype level seems about right. It's a nice thing to have, but nothing crazy.

Lefty here to but always carry right handed. Got use to it from training having your strong hand free when having a side arm . So not feeling Lefty left out😜lol
