Paramilitary 3 wish list, anyone?!?

I think that they nailed it with the PM2. I couldn't ask for anything more.

I would agree, with one caveat. I don't much care for deep carry clips, the lock is one of the strongest availble, geometry is solid. The blade when resting in the closed position leaves quite a bit of space available. I think a 1/4 more of blade would easily fit. If it got any smaller it would have to be called HOA.

Para 3:
Titanium liners/compression lock, stonewashed.
Blue G-10/CF handles
Stonewashed or Black M4 blade
Low-ride clip

Maybe make the handle a little shorter but this isn't absolutely needed. You can fill that up by adding a tiny bit more blade.

Anyone in favor of a version with frn handles, no liners and a ball lock like the lightweight Manix 2s?

^^ I'm not. Not a big fan of the FRCP handles. And if it were to actually be a Para "3" it would utilize the Compression Lock because that is the lock that the Para is built on.

I'm not certain the Glessers restrict any given knife design to just one locking mechanism. After all, the Sage series has seen a liner lock, a frame lock and a bolt-action lock.

Variety...the spice of life!

Don't change a thing! It's perfect as is!

I feel like the compression lock is really what defines it as the para-military, changing the lock would turn it into something different.

My only beef with it so far has been with the pocket clip, on my CF and regular production models, the pocket clip screws have come loose repeatedly, I think the diameter of the holes on the clip itself are slightly too large, the screw head is what seems to be creating the friction holding the clip tight rather than the screw shaft. I've had to really tighten them down and loc-tite them in place to keep the clips from moving side-to-side, my others have not had this issue. Last time I used loc-tite some of it dripped down and gummed up the pivot so I was forced to disassemble them and clean out the extra. At least they disassemble super-easy. Anyone else experienced this issue with the pocket clips?

I think I prefer the style of clip on the para-military 1, I like that the pivot screw can be accessed without removing the clip when in the tip-down configuration.

True, but that's the whole point of the Sage line, to pay homage to the sages of lock design.

I would like a fully serrated version.

I've already committed to buying six of them in order to make the sprint run minimum, just in case someone's thinking of it...

Go to the specialty fastener section of your hardware store and get some long 2-56 screws. I believe they are half inch. These are on a Manix 2 but they fit the Para exactly the same. All of my Paras have one of the long screws bridged across the clip holes. I find that it stabilizes the clip well and also takes the stress of squeezing hard off of the other parts. Obviously this only works if you carry tip-up.

With all the Chinese knockoffs out there, Spyderco cannot sit still from an R&D perspective.

I've been watching some video reviews of the Hinderer XM-18 forgeries, and by most accounts, they are pretty flawless. Spyderco is in the crosshairs of these thieves.

The Paramilitary 2 is indeed the best knife I've ever owned, but it is FAR from perfect, IMHO. Nothing achieves perfection. But the pursuit of it is essential to a company's success.

There are no MAJOR flaws with the knife in any way whatsoever. BUT, there are many very small nuanced changes that can be made to this knife to make it even better than it already is. That's the point of this thread, and it does appear to be generating feedback/input.

Sal and Eric didn't stop with the Military. We got the Paramilitary. They didn't stop with the Paramilitary and we got the Paramilitary 2.

We haven't seen the possibilities of a PM3 yet. It would be a shame if they just stopped now.

Titanium Liners

Pearl white Aluminum handles/Fluted blue Ti

Reddened Damascus/Black blade

Deep carry clip

What? Its not gonna happen? Yeah I thought so- coz its a dream knife :D

In that case I'll just take a MINI-Para 2!

What would you keep?

What would you change?

Deep carry pocket clip?

Different blade grinds/profiles/steels?

Alternative handle materials and/or lighter weight alternative as in lightweight Manix 2's?

Ball bearing lock or other locking mechanisms?

Bigger lanyard hole (lol)?

Changes to handle profile?

More jimping for the nutnfancy contingent?

Nothing's off the table! What would u want to see in the next generation Paramilitary?!? Sound off!

Change nothing just make it a frame lock in 6AL-4V Titanium with textured frame on the non locking side for grip. My dream knife version is envisioned with a nested hardened stainless steel (replaceable)contact insert for the blade contact much the same as the M4 Military folder only for the compression lock as described for Sal some years ago actually, I think on the factory forum tho. But I'm still waiting for that one, now on the Para Military 2 format tho instead of the original which is all that was out at the time I was hinting at it last time.;)

OK folks, I just watch a smokeeater vid on the PM2 and he starts by laying a CF Stretch ZDP-189 (got one that I keep forgetting is in the safe) beside a PM2. The blade shape of the Stretch looks like a perfect "fix" to the blade:handle comments.

It doesn't need a change.
They can't keep up with demand as it as, so why change a thing.

More jimping for the nutnfancy contingent?

And this is the last thing thats needs changing. I don't care for jimping, but the small amount on the Para 2 doesn't bother me.
Putting jimping all over a knife will ruin a good design.

Thus the 3 designation. Leave the 2 as is. I would be quite interested in one with a longer blade and perhaps a smaller hole to allow a narrower blade for less pocket bulk.
