Part 2 of Emerson Q and A is up

I think there are things we can get worked up about that are more fun than complaining that the guy who runs a knife company--and has a forum here--is telling people about an interview he had.

But I will take this opportunity to tell everyone they should buy at least one copy of each of my books for everyone they know. :)

You too Mr. Emerson; my books make great presents for people, and they even have Emerson knives in them. :D

Whoa whoa whoa, you have to be a registered user to do that. Gold membership isn't allowed.

Still... need to be registered, not gold.

Okay, fine...

How about Ernest Emerson be made a moderator? I never could see why he wasn't.
Even if he rarely stepped in and let the other moderator moderate the most, seems like he should be one.

Reported, let's see if this one falls on deaf ears too.

Advertising his brand and knives without correct paid membership.

Why do others have to pay to pitch their wares here but this guy does not?

That seems like a fair question. He's has neither a moderator nor manufacturer membership. Hopefully we get a mod ruling on it.

Although I think his knives are overpriced, he seems like a very inspiring individual.

I just don't see how every single knifemaker that is also a moderator has to pay for a knifemaker membership, but Ernest Emerson doesn't have to have either.

I am not saying he has to be a moderator, nor spend any time here, but if he is going to choose to spend time here and have knives made in his name, he should pay the fee like all of the other knife makers or dealers.

As far as I see it, I am trying to drum up paid support for Bladeforums. They have someone circumventing they rules, and I would like to think we all respect this place enough to look out for its collective best interest.

In which he is promoting his knife brand, aka unpaid solicitation.

AS for the "rules"....Its seems to be very grey at BF. Ive seen some very questionable behavior from moderators here. I will not be a paying user anymore.

Like what?
I've been here a bunch more years than you have, and the only questionable Mod behaviour I saw ended up with the Moderator getting banned.

I haven't seen anything that stands out aside from a moderator giving a value for a Discontinued knife, but I was told it was within the rules since they stated an MSRP, not a current market value.
Sounds close, and depends on view, but if they say it is ok, then it's fine by me.

But I see this as just a bit peculiar.

Is it correct to say that the patent on the Wave opening mechanism has run out but Emerson Knives still has a trademark on the use of the term "Wave" regarding a knife opening mechanism?

If so, you can make a folder with a "Wave" opening mechanism but you just can't call it "Wave".

At the very least I'd think these threads belong in the Emerson sub-forum, not General Knife Discussion.

And no, I don't own any Emerson's... and these self-promoting posts will probably keep it that way.

I've watched parts 1 & 2 and I am still not convinced that I want one of his knives even though I love his grip designs.

Not bad, nice guy, even if his stuff is overpriced and a little bit outdated in 2017.

You seem to really be bothered by this. Take a deep breath, relax. It's just some dudes on the internet.

Bill I think you raise valid points. Ignore that other noise.

Sucky knives and an ego that takes up a football stadium. No thanks.
