Part 2 of Emerson Q and A is up

Wow, I can't really figure out why there is so much negativity here (yet again). If you don't like his stuff, don't watch the video he posted, or better yet just skip the thread entirely. I currently own one Emerson, and it's a fixed blade designed by a different person, so I am not trying to defend the man as some big fan, but good grief, I don't think it's a stretch to refer to him as a knife icon. Really makes you wonder why manufacturers are choosing not to participate on BF anymore

I just think if they weren't catering to this market someone else would be.

I don't know Mr. Emersons credentials other than I like the knives he designs and makes. Let's be honest though that marketing works for them. Alot of guys who are into military type culture probably bought an Emerson because of that assosiation with the Seals or whoever. There are lots of knife collectors who only collect military knives exclusively. By making them self assosiated in this way Emerson is more likely to be considered in that market. Theb there are also those people whi buy an Emerson and think "I am now more Seal-like myself because I own a Seal's knife. (We call these people delusional at best)

I am not saying that is a good or bad thing. Just that there are people like that so someone has to sell this to them. If nothing else Emerson is a good marketer.

I actually watched his video, because I am really interested in his stuff and yes, himself too, look at the trend of my posts thus far, I like Kemersons, but I think he drew the line at the honorary seal bit.

I hope he can back that up.

Please, Mr. Emerson, do not disappoint.

I've never owned an Emerson knife and probably never will. I did enjoy both videos though, thanks to EE for linking them here. I'd definitely rank him as an icon, as his resume in the knife world is pretty top-notch. If I made a knife and a bunch of SEALs decided that it was the one that they wanted to carry on their ops I'd be pretty damn proud of that and would probably talk about it just about every time somebody asked me about my knives. Hell, I'd be pretty proud if I made a knife and a lunch lady decided that it was good enough to slice carrots with.

These videos are just a backhanded marketing ploy specially to introduce Emerson Knives and its "historical" association with the SEALs to the new and unfamiliar. It's specially telling since the threads were posted both in the less-visited BF Emerson Knives (I last posted there in December 2015) and the popular BF General Discussions for maximum exposure. Of course, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

As long as we have you here, what is your position on tantos re:use on bananas? Many here believe the tanto is too powerful a blade shape to be used on bananas, what do you think?
I'm not Mr Emerson, but I believe a chisel ground tanto would fail in cutting straight and thus veer off during an attempt in cutting bananas, and the user might have a higher chance of harming himself.
However I am not too sure if a relatively soft 154cm is powerful enough in comparison to CTS XHP, but I hope Emerson owners would chime in on the level of power their blades have.

As would I be. My main beef at the moment is the honorary SEAL bit. But he may be able to prove it. Let's give him a chance.

Addendum: I don't know any SEALs but I thought to ask here.

Emerson has had auctions to benefit the families of fallen SEAL members, so I'm not sure why you would doubt that they would give him an honorary mention.

I think there is a difference in an honorary mention and being badged, don't you? 10:55 of the video onwards.

Also, I think the link you link needs a second look. Emerson did not auction that knife. A SEAL donated it.

I linked the wrong knife. But the point still stands. Emerson has had several auctions to benefit families of SEAL members. He's also been a straightforward guy from everything I've seen through the years.

Fair enough. What did you think of 10:55? I'd like to believe it's true. But is it? Would love it if he could confirm this.

His stuff is just not that good. I can think of 2 dozen makers large and small that create better knives.

I have no idea. Like I said previously, Emerson always came off as a straight shooter to me.

Mr Emerson already has his own sub forum but it gets very little activity so he posted here also. ;)

Forums, especially hosted forums, get more popular when they are used regularly by their staff. See how Cold Steel went from being bashed to opening a forum to supporting the forum with really good moderation.

Not in my book. It would be like giving yourself a nickname.

Or kind of like what Lynn Thompson did where a few martial arts trainers whom he had paid to train him then "gave" him that ridiculous "Master at Arms" award. I laughed so hard.
