pass-around contest!

Come on, got to be at least 4 more people willing to put a couple of knives through there paces and write a review?

Im an amateur knifemaker , but I can certainly wield one! Ill get in on the testing , and Ill give you a full report of my findings.

I don't see why testers would have to be knifemakers, probably be good to have a few that are not makers to get a strictly "User's" perspective on things.

Do the additional testers need to be makers?

No I do not expect them to be makers. I only expect that they read and meet all rules and requirements. also that they have the time and knowledge to put these knives through their paces in an equal and fair manner.

Please read all passaround rules from me and the forum. Then email me with all of your contact information. Chadstenger@gmail.com

Here's another idea. The Becker guys love any excuse to test knives. Any kind of knife. I can't think of any other group that could thoroughly test a blade than these guys. They have a Midwest Gathering coming up July 5-7th and I'm betting they'd be more than happy to put a few big blades through their paces and report back their findings!

Here's their thread. Becker Midwest Gathering July 5-7

One of the reasons I posted this pass around thread here is because it will be seen by more people, I also want to let people know that you should not be affraid to test a knife if you are not a maker. As a very new knife maker my self, the more I see none makers stepping up the more excited I get because it shows that ppl still have an interest in the stuff that I so dearly love to do and it only makes me want to push more and more to better my o so favorite steel! Please guys volunteer

CHad, do you still need testers? I'm actually considering... what the hell, I'll do it if you need another tester.

Although, I will say a 40 degree included angle edge at 1000 grit does not sound like much of a cutting edge to me. But I'd do it if that's the rule. Can I at least strop it a bit? I sure wouldn't want to try shaving even my arm with it otherwise...

Are u still looking for testers. If so im in.

I am still looking for testers.

Second. I say 40 degree because it is a 20 degree on each side which adds up to a 40 degree.

Why not? If the edge is thin enough to begin with and the main bevels are acute, I have no problem with a 40d included edge. When properly done, I think of it as a micro-bevel on a zero edge. And as for 1000 grit, for working knives I don't have a problem with that level of fineness either. It's not a true razor edge of course, but it will certainly shave hair, slice paper, whittle hardwood, chop, etc.

Don't know if I could count on it having a grind like that... and Chad, yes I know that, that's why I said "included angle"...

OK, I kinda thought that's what you were getting at. I certainly agree, if the edge is thick to start with, 40degrees isn't going to cut very well.

I'll shush now, because unfortunately I don't have time to help with the testing. I'm interested in the results, of course.

I'd be interested to see Chad's grinding skills. Put me down for it Chad, if you like. It's an interesting idea anyway.

I am really sorry for the delay everyone and the delay is going to have to continue for a little bit.

My wife is pregnant with our third her name is going to be sofia right around the time I started this thread my wife and I found out that our daughter has TOF and degeorge syndrom. Tof is a heart development problem that she wil, have to have open heart surgery for with in a few days of birth. Degeorge syndrom is a chrmosonal issue that can cause a very broad range of life long issues. For these complications the military will be sending us up to boston for the birth of sofia and we will most likely be there for 2 months of sofias life. I hope that everyone understands why I will have to put off knife making for a little bit. Darrin and i have decided that at a later date this will be completed. I am sorry for inconveniencing anyone.

If you would like to read a much more detailed information about our daughter and my family, here is a blog my wife started to keep our extended families in the loop on our situation and so that we did not have to tell every single person over and over.

Thank for being so patient this far I am going to have to ask that everyone stay a little more patient.

To be continued.....

Chad you and yours will be in my prayers, sorry to hear about the complications, but medical science has come a long way and you are fortunate they could diagnose the problem.

Your link did not come through.
