Paul / CPE at Forged in Fire on May 4th

CPE_Knives CPE_Knives you made a great showing start to finish. This was possibly the best episode I’ve seen. You definitely stood out in the first two rounds but as sgt1372 said as soon as I heard them mention your final weapon was heavy, I slumped back a little bit and thought we’ll that about does it. Still and I can’t say it enough you had a great showing.

Can you comment on how many days it is from the time you are told of the final “home forge” challenge until you actually begin work and filming?
Do you have time to order materials if you don’t have something appropriate?
Are you offered any build material? Seems often times smiths return with a weapon made from the same material.
Thank you. Yeah the heavy comment is no fun to hear for sure. That always ends the same way on the show unless one of them breaks.

I think the time varies. We were lucky because I heard normally its right away when you get back home. We had Thanksgiving in between so we had a few days to think about it and get some stuff. They do give you enough steel to make it. I think its always 5160. So if you see swords out of that on the show its probably why.

Paul - I just watched the episode and thought of all the contestants I’ve seen over the years, your skill, professionalism, coolness-under-pressure, humble personality and grace at the end make you one of the top bladesmiths of the F-I-F franchise. When I heard you were an electrical engineer, I instantly gave you the win.😉 You guys are my favorite professionals. Though retired from a distribution cooperative in Texas and on a fixed income, I’m definitely going to get one of your creations soon. Congratulations on a terrific job! - Allan

Thank you the kind words. I really appreciate it. When they invited me on the show I decided I was just going to have as much fun as possible and enjoy the experience. Whenever you are ready for a knife let me know and I will get one going.

Then there is the fact that ...,
Only one sword cut the pig in half twice, right ... ;-)

Most excellent work from BOTH Smith's

Pleased to be informed the show was about to air (thx BF Family :-)
Awesome job Paul !##!
Most beautiful work

Thank you. I was excited when we came in and saw the goat. Cody and I were talking before hand and we couldn't decide what would be better the ballistics dummy with all the fake bones or some kind of big animal carcass. I am glad they did the one with all the hair and thick hide it was a good test.

For any who don’t have regular access to Forged in Fire shows, they’re available on Prime. Paul’s episode is episode 6 of season 9, and can be watched without getting the whole season.

Just watched it...great job Paul! The fullers on yours looked perfect, like they were machined. And your knives in the previous rounds were at another level compared to your competitors.
Thank you very much. It was a lucky break for me getting a sword with all those fullers. I have been doing a lot of fullers on my knives for a while so I had quite a bit of practice.

Was finally able to get to my DVR...

Paul -- I was absolutely blown away by your knowledge, skill, and expertise in all phases of the competition!:thumbsup: You absolutely owned the double knife-making phase of the competition. On these episodes, most participants are scraping and clawing to make spec. You were standing there with your knives at one point, "thinking pretty"... :D

The sword competition was toe-to-toe all the way, and no one could accuse your blade of being the "loser." It was a great performance all-around.
I hope FiF does another one of those episodes where they bring back competitors from previous shows, and invites you back (and hopefully you're available!).

Thank you very much I really appreciate it. I think there is a decent chance of me being back on. Some of the people working at the show and one of the judges told me I performed well enough to maybe get a rematch. Its all up to the fans and what episodes the History Channel does next season. I would definitely do it again it was a great time and I learned a lot.

OMG... A rematch would be AWESOME! :)

Maybe one judge actually told you, but I feel pretty certain ALL of the judges thought you deserved to come back on the show.

I think you'll be invited back!!! Your first two blades blew everyone else's away!!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. In the mean time keep knocking out those killer blades you've been making n posting here!!!
Love your style. AKA blood groove maximus !!!! 👍👍👍

Paul...I was really impressed with what I saw. Great show! I plan to place an order for a 12 Bravo, as soon as I free up some funds. They would be fools not to have you back!
