Pay It Forward -- it's been a while

I would LOVE to claim the serrated Delica! I have been dying to get a full serrated knife to send it off to have the edge carbidized. I will be putting the karambit back up, as I said. I had honestly forgot about it, with all of the stuff I have going on at the moment.

Ooh, can I have the purple SAK? I like the purple.

I actually just bought a black one of those from a local hardware stone chain, they had it for a little over $5. I figured I could use a nice little slippy for my backpack. A little stropping and it is hair whittling sharp.

That Victorious Florist is identical to the red one I got as my first knife. It's such a useful tool, and easy to put a wicked edge on! I use mine for woodworking every time. I've never considered using a different knife when carving is involved. Which chain has those for $5 bro? I'd pick up an extra couple for myself and the kids!

Totally and totally! Ha! Those were the two I thought no one would want. You guys rock. Email me addresses (or PM) and I'll get 'em out on Monday. :)

That said, DKB, I don't know what carbidizing is and I looked it up but it's late and my comprehension skills aren't great atm. Will carbidizing basically put a new edge on it? I'm concerned that the serrations of the Delica are too worn down on the flat/back side and it won't work for what you want to do. I can try to get better photos if you want. But by all means, if you think it'll work for you you're welcome to it.

Hey Tomboy!!
Carbidizing is done to the lock face of a Ti frame lock. It stops lock stick.
As far as I understood it......and my comprehension skills aren't good at any moment!!

Hmmm. What I read said, "carbidizing creates very hard microserrations that greatly aid in slicing, but restrict pushcuts somewhat. Carbidizing is done by microwelding very thin, small diameter puddles of carbide onto the steel or titanium. Basically a knife is made the same way it traditionally is, but at the end of the process the carbide is microwelded onto one side of the cutting edge."

I don't want to post a link since it's from a knife manufacturer's website, but that makes sense to me, I think. I just want to make sure that a serrated knife that's going to have the edge carbidized doesn't need perfect serrations to begin with. Because the little Delica, her serrations are not perfect, poor ol' gal. But I'm happy to send it to DKB regardless. I'm not trying to talk anyone out of anything. :p

& I may have to pick your brain about lock stick resolutions at some point. Or, you know, search the forum because I'm sure it's been discussed and the answer is here somewhere. :p If lock stick is when, say, a back lock is really difficult to push down to unlock, then I have a Stretch with a bad case of it.

Carbidized basically welds a layer of tungsten carbide onto the flat side of the cutting edge. I don't know the exact physics of it, but it basically makes the edge pretty much perpetually sharp with micro serrations. It makes the edge ugly, but for slicing and cutting soft materials the edge should nearly never wear out.

By the way, so you still have my address? It is the return address on the knife I sent you. I am super glad to see the Yellowjacket has a good home.

I'll contribute this LNIB Victorinox Bantam Alox, including gift box.

I really like this Victorinox model, it is very thin and makes a great "suit" knife. Victorinox stopped selling this knife in the US a couple of years ago, but they still sell it in Europe. This one comes direct from it's homeland...I bought it at the Zurich airport.

Cheers,
TwistyRoads

Got this in the mail today. Love it. Thanks again

Well, the Swiss Army Climber is on it's way to Wroughndt. Should have it by Monday or Tuesday.

USPS Tracking # 9500 1103 8521 6218 0102 18.

Hope you enjoy, Wroughndt.

Please let us know when it arrives.

I think that is the last of the knives that I have to send out. If I have missed someone or something, please let me know.

Great, thanks for letting me know it arrived. Enjoy!
A little backstory on that particular knife: it has actual cabin flight time on an airliner. I bought it after security in the Zurich airport, then carried it on the plane to the US. It was in my pocket for the entire flight, then I sent it to you. Sounds crazy to us in the US, but perfectly legal in Switzerland!

Joe,

I did not forget. BTW, they are Insingos. Do you like Insingos? I hope so.

You would not want me to send two Sebenzas that I have handled, played with, dropped, and drooled on would you? Of course not.

Both of your Insingo knives are waiting to be made. Just for you. All you have to do is call Chris Reeve at CRK and tell him what you want.

Sabre Cat

PS, Make sure you send him a deposit.:D

I'll make sure to tell him you sent me!!

LOL. So would I. Heck, I would just like to hold one... and drool on it.

If I ever do get to see or hold a Sebenza, I probably will want one after that.

Of course that will start one of the shortest discussion ever between husband and wife.

Husband: "Dear, can I..."

Wife: "No."

Husband: "But..."

Wife: "No."

Husband: "I just..."

Wife: "No."

Husband: "Sigh."

Hmmm, now that I see it in print, it reminds me of the times I try to talk to my wife about improving our sex life.
